About the Role

We are seeking a motivated, self-starter to join Mixpanel's legal team as lead privacy counsel. You will lead efforts to help mature and administer Mixpanel's global privacy program and help Mixpanel navigate evolving global privacy laws and regulations, by leading related projects or strategic initiatives. You will report directly to Mixpanel's General Counsel.

Responsibilities

  • Foster a culture of privacy compliance and privacy by design within the organization;
  • Advise product, engineering, operations, information security, marketing and people teams on meeting strategic objectives while complying with global laws, regulations, best practices, and customer requirements;
  • Monitor legal and regulatory developments, think ahead, see around corners, and help prepare for and minimize risks that may arise in the future;
  • Lead discussions with the designated supervisory and other data protection authorities;
  • Maintain and update forms of data protection agreements and policies, and assist the commercial and procurement teams in drafting, reviewing, and negotiating related agreements;
  • Discuss Mixpanel's privacy program with customer and prospective customers as needed;
  • Provide legal and strategic leadership to support cross-functional projects across internal functions;
  • Facilitate and provide ongoing privacy training and orientation sessions for Mixpanel personnel;
  • Collaborate with product, engineering, security and other business units to ensure privacy by design principles are embedded in Mixpanel products, services and business arrangements; and
  • Opportunity to support the product and engineering teams on various initiatives, including, but not limited to providing counsel on road maps, technology related licensing, and intellectual property programs.
  • Depending on interest and experience, may also assist on various other legal projects in different functions, such as employment, corporate governance, general compliance, litigation and commercial contracts.

We're Looking For Someone Who Has

  • Seasoned privacy lawyer with experience leading a privacy program;
  • Positive, friendly and collaborative attitude while maintaining the highest standards of business and professional conduct;
  • Strong work ethic and project management skills with ability to respond to requests quickly and with excellent attention to detail;
  • Clear communicator with ability to distill complex issues in a simple manner in both writing and orally;
  • Curious to learn Mixpanel's technology and anticipate legal issues in the analytics space that could arise in various settings, with a record of partnering with the business in a fast-paced, results-oriented environment;
  • A business-minded lawyer who is focused on execution, and comfortable making thoughtful, creative decisions on cutting-edge legal issues;
  • Strong social skills required to become a trusted advisor for the legal team, our internal clients, and external customers and their negotiators/counsel;
  • Qualification to practice law in the United States or an EU country;
  • At least six (6) years of post-qualified experience working at an international law firm and ideally in-house as well. More experienced candidates are encouraged to apply; and
  • Fluency in English (written and oral) is a must.

Compensation

The total target cash compensation (TTCC) for this full-time position would fall within the bands below. This amount includes base compensation and variable compensation in the form of either a company bonus or commissions. Variable compensation type is determined by your role and level. This position is also eligible for equity consideration and other benefits including medical, vision, and dental insurance coverage. You can view our benefits offerings here.

Lead Privacy Counsel, IC5 $262,350 - $320,650

Leveling is determined by factors such as years of relevant work experience, level of responsibility, and knowledge required to be successful in the role.

Our salary ranges are determined by role and level and are benchmarked to the SF Bay Area Technology data cut released by Radford, a global compensation database. The range displayed represents the minimum and maximum TTCC for new hire salaries for the position across all of our US locations. To stay on top of market conditions, we refresh our salary ranges twice a year so these ranges may change in the future. Within the range, individual pay is determined by experience, job-related skills, qualifications, and other factors.
