The Memphis Sports and Events Center (MSEC), adjacent to Simmons Bank Liberty Stadium, is a 227,000 square foot facility designed to drive both sports tourism and local engagement. With 16 basketball / 32 volleyball courts that are adaptable to a wide range of sports and events, the MSEC will also feature amenities such as a full-service cafe, VIP suites and spectator seating for thousands. The facility is operated by Virginia-based Eastern Sports Management (ESM) and is part of the Liberty Park project, a mixed-use development of entertainment venues, dining, retail, hotels and apartments.

The MSEC is currently accepting applications for League Marshal. The League Marshall is responsible for the safety of all individuals at the property, including players, coaches, officials, spectators, and employees. The League Marshal enforces all the rules and policies of the property and removes those who choose to not abide by the rules and policies. The League Marshal is instrumental in de-escalating emotional situations and keeping order on the property. The League Marshal reports directly to the Senior Program Director and/or to the Manager on Duty.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Ensure rosters and player identification match registration documents

  • Provide courteous and friendly service to all guests

  • Resolve guest complaints with or without the assistance of supervisory personnel

  • Monitor and limit access to player and spectator areas to those authorized

  • Ensure event areas are properly configured prior to the commencement of play

  • Ensure events begin and conclude on time

  • Respond to any unusual circumstances (e.g. accidents, injuries, altercations, etc.)

  • Ensure Manager on Duty is aware of progress/status of play and unusual circumstances

  • Monitor event areas for unusual activity

  • Act as scorekeeper as required

  • Complete end-of-shift reports in accordance with property standard procedures

  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as needed, required, or assigned by supervisory personnel (Sports/Tournament Director, Manager on Duty, etc.) and/or the General Manager

  • Demonstrated leadership ability

  • Display strong verbal communication skills
  • Display professionalism in appearance and interaction with guests
  • Detail oriented and possess outstanding organizational skills
  • Ability to remain calm and focused in a high-volume, fast-paced environment
  • Ability to work in difficult and stressful environments
  • Ability to prioritize and perform multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Ability to remain calm and professional in emergency situations
  • Availability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays if necessary

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and/or Experience: No prior experience or training is required. Experience managing large groups of people or de-escalating emotionally charged situations is highly preferred.

Language Skills: Ability to communicate with guests/participants in English. Other language skills are desirable.

Mathematical Skills: No math skills higher than basic addition and subtraction is required.

Computer Skills: Use of a windows-based workstation and associated property-specific software for the management of leagues and/or tournaments is required.

The League Marshal may be indoors in a temperature and humidity-controlled environment or outdoors in ambient temperature and humidity except in rain/thunderstorm weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
