LOCATION: HOMESTEAD CYBRARIUM

HOURS: 20 per week

Library Systems & Services (LS&S) is seeking to fill our part-time Library Associate 2 position at the Homestead Cybrarium in Homestead, Florida. Under direction from management, the Library Associate 2 performs a variety of moderately complex technical and paraprofessional duties in support of various sections/functions of the Cybrarium; primarily at the service desk. This position will report to the Library Operations Manager.

The Cybrarium covers two floors of a four-floor mixed-use entertainment and community center known as Homestead Station in south Miami-Dade County. The Cybrarium brings excitement to the library, literacy, and learning by using innovations like virtual reality. The Cybrarium is open seven days a week. Weekend and evening hours are required for this position.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

An individual must be able to perform each essential duty and responsibility satisfactorily.

• Provides customer service by welcoming and registering patrons, issuing library cards, checking out materials, and managing patron accounts
• Assists patrons with locating materials or basic information needs, using computers, or explaining procedures (checking out, logging onto the Internet, making copies, etc.)
• Assists patrons with virtual reality (VR) services: booking reservations, aiding new users, providing technical support, and cleaning and maintaining equipment
• Checks in and processes materials as necessary
• Accepts and processes fines, fees, or other payments
• Provides information regarding programs, events, conference rooms, etc.
• Shelves library materials and pulls library materials to fill patron requests
• Inform patrons of rules of conduct as necessary, and enforce those rules when appropriate, and escalates patron conduct or safety issues to appropriate management
• May supervise library volunteers and interns in the absence of senior staff
• Assist with library programming and outreach efforts

QUALIFICATIONS:

An individual should possess the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed and meet the amount of education, training, and/or work experience required.

• H.S. Diploma or GED required
• Two years of public library experience preferred
• Basic knowledge of technology, library systems and databases, and STEM services preferred
• Ability to work a regular schedule that may include a combination of days, evenings, and weekends
• Excellent customer service skills
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
• Good communication skills, both written and verbal. English/Spanish speaking is a plus

Physical Requirements:

• Must be able to move from place to place within the location; lift, push/pull, hold/carry of items weighing up to (25) pounds and occasional up to (35) pounds such as files, books, stacks of paper, and other materials.
• Ability to sit for long periods of time and to maintain focus on projects such as computer screens or detailed paperwork.
