Part-time position exists at Mercer-Bucks Orthopaedics, PC, a premier subspecialty-oriented orthopedic group with offices in Langhorne, Pennsylvania and Lawrenceville, Hamilton, Marlton, Princeton, Monroe, and Freehold, New Jersey. The primary location for this job will be in Langhorne, Pennsylvania. The Physical Therapy Assistant is responsible for providing physical therapy treatments and related duties adhering to the plan of care and physicians’ orders. Working under guidance of a licensed Physical Therapist, the Physical Therapy Assistant provides skilled therapy interventions and treatments to patients in the assigned Mercer-Bucks Orthopaedics (MBO) office. The Physical Therapy Assistant provides care and/or services in accordance with professional standards, applicable laws and regulations and agency policies and procedures and adheres to Medicare and Medicaid regulations.

Job Qualifications/Professional Requirements

  • Graduate of a physical therapy assistant curriculum approved by the American Physical Therapy Association
  • Currently licensed to practice in the state of New Jersey and Pennsylvania
  • Minimum of 1 year as a Physical Therapy Assistant in a healthcare setting
  • CPR certification.
  • Knowledgeable about federal and state regulations regarding patient care.
  • Possesses thorough knowledge of the principles, methods, materials and equipment used in physical therapy treatment.
  • Able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients and MBO provider staff.
  • Possesses ability to understand, interpret and carry out the Physical Therapist’s directions.
  • Possesses excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate across all levels of authority and to patients.
  • Possesses excellent organization, problem solving, and project management skills.
  • Maintains licensure requirements as applicable to the position.
  • Maintains a valid driver’s license and insurance as applicable to the position.
  • Able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
  • Multilingual capability is a plus.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provides skilled physical therapy interventions within the therapy scope of practice, the standard of care, and as ordered on the plan of care and in compliance with physician orders.
  • Documents skilled care and/or services provided in compliance with federal and state laws and regulations, and MBO policies and procedures.
  • Performs services planned, delegated, and supervised by the Physical Therapist.
  • Assists in preparing clinical notes and progress reports.
  • Participates in educating the patient and family.
  • Communicates instructions to the patient.
  • Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with patients and MBO provider staff.
  • Participates in case conferences to discuss multidisciplinary team responsibilities, patient progress, and plans for continued care.
  • Promotes and provides patient/family/caregiver education using various verbal and written communication techniques that take into account the patient’s/family’s cultural, ethnic, and/or personal needs or preferences.
  • Notifies the physician and Physical Therapist/clinical designee of any changes in the patient’s condition and the need to modify the plan of care.
  • Participates in the performance/quality improvement program.
  • Attends practice meetings and in-service programs as required.
  • Obtains appropriate number of continuing education credits to maintain re-licensure status.
  • Completes projects/assignments within specific timetables.
  • Attains goals as set forth in the annual performance evaluation.
  • Submits documentation within required timeframes.
  • Maintains strict confidentiality on patient, MBO, and employee matters.
  • Attends all regular staff meetings.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
