Location: Shokan, NY 12481.
Season: 6/26/23-9/1/23. Mandatory training dates TBD in June 2023. Partial season commitment can be discussed, though full season commitment preferred.
Hours: 8:45 AM – 4:15 PM, Monday – Friday, no camp July 4.
Bus transportation exclusive to campers and staff available throughout Ulster County.
Lifeguards must be at least 18 years of age per Department of Health regulations.
Hourly rate: $15
POSITION SUMMARY:
Maintains safe aquatic activity conditions in the pond and surrounding areas. Creates a safe and positive atmosphere that promotes camper safety and engagement in accordance with YMCA camp policies and procedures.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Maintains active surveillance of the waterfront area including the boating and rope swing areas.
- Knows/reviews all emergency procedures and responds to emergency situations immediately in accordance with YMCA camp policies, and procedures. Completes related reports as required.
- Maintains effective, positive relationships with the campers and other staff.
- Knows, understands, and consistently applies safety rules, policies and guidelines for the waterfront and boating area. Maintains accurate records as required by the YMCA camp and/or the state Health Department code.
- Performs equipment checks and ensures appropriate equipment is available as needed.
- Checks the waterfront for hazardous conditions when arriving.
- Attends all staff meetings and in-service training.
- Engages with campers and staff peers in camp day activities not exclusive to waterfront area when appropriate.
REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS: Lifeguarding with Waterfront, CPR/AED. CPR certification must have been renewed within 12 months. Red Cross courses are available to be completed at YMCA before the season begins.
