JOB SUMMARY:

Perform all locksmith functions at the University. Responsible for design, installation and repair of door locking (control) mechanisms, locks, making keys and maintaining records and files regarding lock assignments, door-room numbers and person's issued keys.


REPORTS TO: Chief of Campus Safety and Emergency Management

RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:
  • Specify door control locks, handles and security hardware.
  • Design lock core and keying system for the University.
  • Maintain files and computer records, key codes and key inventory records.
  • Respond to calls for service day or night, when directed.
  • Assist facilities department with renovations and new construction.
  • Order lock-key supplies, maintain inventory.
  • Maintain locksmith service vehicle.
  • Maintain and repair university parking entrance gates.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS: (Knowledge, Skills and Abilities)
  • Strong computer skills for using Windows, Microsoft Word, Excel and Email.
  • Knowledge of biometric access devices.
  • Understand low voltage wiring as applies to door hardware and electric strike plates.
  • Building codes, laws and standard practices related to locksmith trade including hardware.
  • Ability to be organized and pay attention to detail.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with others.

EDUCATIONAL/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
  • High School diploma is required.
  • Minimum of two years of locksmith experience is required.
  • Medeco Keymark Training Certificate and NYC Locksmith License is preferred.
  • Member of a Professional Locksmith Organization (ALOA or equivalent).
  • Familiar with ADA & Life safety codes.
  • Ability to be on 24 hour on call duty for emergency response.
