POSITION: LTE Head Cook/ Elderly Nutrition Program Manager

LOCATION: Red Cliff Elderly Nutrition Center

SALARY: $17.00 per hour, approximately 40 hours per week

SUPERVISOR(S): Elderly Director /Family & Human Service Division Administrator

THIS IS A REGULAR PART-TIME NON-EXEMPT POSITION

JOB SUMMARY: Serve this department as the Head Cook/Nutrition Program manager. Manage the nutrition operations working in conjunction with local, state, and federal requirements as they relate to the provision of congregate & home delivered meals, food service & delivery operations, and health/food safety & sanitation practices.

Ensure appropriate and required training/certifications are obtained by all staff/volunteers who work with the Elderly Nutrition Program (ENP). In addition to nutrition, coordinate as related to transportation and caregiver support programs and synchronize with nutrition services.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILIES: This position are responsible for all on-site activities as they pertain to nutrition and other related services. These include but are not limited to:

  • Program eligibility, registrations, and determinations.
  • Work together with Assistant Cook to prepare and serve meals.
  • Enforce policies and other obligations as outlined in funding language, tribal & program policy, local & state food code requirements, and other responsibilities that relate to ENP, including staff, volunteer, and participant conduct.
  • Implementing change as necessary in relation to ENP (introducing, expanding, or reducing services/activities) based on staff, funding, policy, and/or need. (Special diets, portion control, cost analysis, temperatures, wait lists, donations, fundraising, etc.).
  • Ensure that a safe, clean, and orderly environment is maintained for various food service operations.
  • Recruiting, training, scheduling ENP staff and volunteers.
  • Encouraging, recording, handling, depositing, and/or distributing donations (food, gift/raffle, daily meal donations, etc.).
  • Ensure supplies and equipment for ENP operations are ordered, inventoried and/or repaired as necessary, maintain accurate inventories and records.
  • Ensure all volunteer/staff are appropriately trained on various topics related to duties/clientele—as required by local, state, federal and as program/staff improvement effort. Maintain records of all training provided/attended.
  • Process program applications, conduct assessment of home delivered meal requests.
  • Ensure proper menu planning occurs considering nutrition requirements, dietician approval, cancellation of meals due to weather or other menu rotation.
  • Work with supervisor, funders, partners, participants, and staff/volunteers on valid problems or concerns encountered.
  • Actively participate in Nutrition Advisory meetings as funding enables.
  • Attend training as available to enhance skills.
  • Maintain clean, safe, and pleasant environment for the food service operation and ensure compliance with program policies & procedures.
  • Provide or arrange individualized nutrition counseling to at-risk elders.
  • Develop and expand services as needs change.
  • Schedule and coordinate home delivered meal routes.
  • Ensure meals are packaged and served in a safe and appropriate manner for home delivery and dining room service.
  • Maintain accurate daily, weekly, and monthly reports on attendance, home delivered meals, meals served, and volunteer hours donated.
  • Handle meal reservations, cancellations and communicate with central kitchen & home delivered meal coordinator regarding meals & special diets.
  • Maintain confidentiality and respect the dignity of meal participants and volunteers.
  • Arrange for the special needs of frail and disabled diners and volunteers, including transportation to and from the dining room.
  • Make necessary arrangements for diners to transition from home delivered meals to senior dining meals.
  • Work closely with other programs within the aging department and within the family services division to make appropriate referrals if needed.
  • Work with all aging staff to assist in transportation needs for both consumers and program (vehicle tracking reports, scheduling maintenance, etc.).
  • Work with aging staff to assist in Caregiver Support Coordination as outlined in Title VI Part C.
  • Center rental coordination (funerals, community functions, private parties, etc.).
  • The above duties and responsibilities are not an all-inclusive list but rather a general representation of the duties and responsibilities associated with this position. The duties and responsibilities will be subject to change based on organizational needs and/or deemed necessary by the supervisor.

SUPERVISORY AUTHORITY: The Head Cook/ENP Manager has supervisory authority over ENP staff and volunteers. The Elderly Director may delegate supervisory functions to appropriate designee as needed/desired.

KNOWLEDGE: Knowledge and sensitive to the needs of older adults. Knowledgeable of the culture of Red Cliff and the long-term impacts of the tribal lifestyle on elders

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum of high school diploma, HSED or GED required.
  • Two years’ experience in food service.
  • Must be Serve Safe Food certified or obtain certification within 90 days of employment.
  • Experience in geriatric nutrition, preferred.
  • Experience in supervising, preferred.
  • Demonstrated effective oral and written communication skills including public speaking, public relations and client advocacy.
  • Experience with volunteerism.
  • Ability to design, develop and arrange/deliver training programs for adults, clients and staff as indicated.
  • Ability to assure compliance with all food safety/sanitation requirements.
  • Ability to be professional and maintain a positive attitude in the face of conflict.
  • Must be able to interpret and follow policy/grant directions and work without close supervision.
  • Valid driver’s license and eligibility to be placed on the tribe’s vehicle insurance policy is preferred.

PERSONAL CONTACTS: Daily or frequent contacts with Assistant Cook, transportation provider and volunteers, Title V program staff, Elderly clients, Aging Department Director. Bayfield County Aging and Disability Unit; State Title III agency staff: Greater Wisconsin Area on Aging Resources, Inc (GWAAR); Federal Title VI agency staff; Tribal Technical Assistance Center through GLITC; Tribal Management; food/supply/maintenance vendors; Dietician and other health (nutrition/wellness) staff; Wisconsin Dept. of Transportation, ES units, Caregiver Support Network of Ashland/Bayfield Co, and other partners (local or otherwise) as needed.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Individual may require sitting or standing for long periods of time, bending, lifting to 50 pounds, and reaching. The ENP Manager must be able to do all movements associated with food service and delivery operations.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: Elderly Nutrition Center (feeding site). All Tribal Buildings are smoke free.

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS: The ability to travel and attend meetings and trainings; overnight and out of town, both locally & nationally.
