SELECTED CANDIDATES MUST PASS A CIVIL SERVICE EXAM AND BE FROM THE RESULTING LIST TO GAIN PERMANENT STATUS.

Electronic Equipment Maintainer Level II / Revenue Equipment Maintainer II Salary Rates: (Revised 8/12/2022)

1st Year - $41.7031/ Hourly

2nd Year - $43.0341/ Hourly

3rd Year - $44.3650/ Hourly


Responsibilities


The primary duties of this position within the Electronic Maintenance Division’s Central Electronics Shop include the diagnosis and repair of complex electronic and electromechanical equipment; reviewing schematics and test procedures based on performance measurements using frequency generators, signal conditioners/analyzers, digital voltmeters and sampling oscilloscopes, designing and building specialized equipment, identifying electronic components from schematics and researching equivalent commercial replacement parts. This position entails computer operation, some programming, and the application of automated testing concepts. The incumbent will work under minimum supervision with wide latitude for independent judgment in the repair of electronic equipment while being guided by formal documented processes.

The incumbent will also; analyze computer reports, perform work in the field if required, reverse engineer complex electronic equipment, document actions, and repair and maintain “state of the art” electronic modules which consist of: programmable array logic, chip on board, gate array, surface mount, multi-layer mixed technologies, and ball grid array components. In addition, the incumbent may also support tasks such as material control, storage, processing and distribution.


Education and Experience


Three years of full-time satisfactory journey-level experience as a fully-trained knowledgeable, experienced, proficient, and competent technician, maintaining, testing, trouble-shooting, calibrating and repairing complex electronic equipment employing analog and digital circuitry.

For the above journey-level experience to be credited, it must be preceded by one of the following:

  • Two years of full-time satisfactory experience as a technician, technician’s helper, apprentice or trainee performing or assisting in the work described above; or
  • Graduation from a trade school or technical school approved by a State's department of education or a recognized accrediting organization, with a major course of study in electrical or electronic technology, or a closely related field, totaling 600 hours; or
  • A four-year vocational high school diploma approved by a State's department of education or a recognized accrediting organization with a major course of study in electrical or electronic technology, or a closely related field; or
  • An associate degree (sixty semester credits) from an accredited college in electrical or electronic technology, electrical engineering, or a closely related field.

License Requirement

A motor vehicle driver license valid in the State of New York with no restrictions which would preclude the performance of Electronic Equipment Maintainer work. This license must be maintained for the duration of employment.



Desired Skills


  • Experience and proficiency with soldering techniques associated with through hole and surface mount components.
  • Familiarization with the New York City Transit’s rules, regulations and procedures.
  • Good communication skills.


Selection Method


Based on evaluation of education, skills, experience and interview, electronics exam and soldering practical exam.

As an employee of MTA NYC Transit you may be required to complete an annual financial disclosure statement with the state of New York, if your position earns more than $101,379 (this is subject to change) per year or if the position is designated as a policy maker.
