Maintenance Contracts Inspector Job at WSSC Water
The
Maintenance Contracts Inspector performs skilled multi-trades inspection work overseeing the installation, repair, modification, testing, calibration and operation of multi-disciplined systems to ensure compliance with facility and equipment maintenance and service contracts.
Essential Functions
- Inspects work performed under a wide variety of maintenance contracts and services including: low voltage electrical; high voltage electrical; crane/hoist services; crane rental services; fire alarm services and inspections; flow meter preventive maintenance, calibration and repair services; generator preventive maintenance and repair services, instrumentation & repair services, mechanical services, plumbing services, fixed atmospheric equipment (MSA) calibrations and repairs, sprinkler system preventive maintenance, installation, repairs and services, switchgear preventive maintenance repairs and thermography services, truck scales, and calibrations
- Performs inspections to ensure compliance with material, workmanship, and safety standards
Monitors contractor work for effective performance of work
Inspects new and existing facilities, ensuring correction of deficiencies, maintaining current and accurate records, and providing technical advice, guidance, and assistance when required
Works independently, exercising technical judgment and discretion in making on-site decisions
Performs customer interviews and inspections of new and existing systems for a variety of different contracts and installations for conformance with safety and other WSSC Water requirements and recommends necessary changes and/or improvements
Investigates reports of dangerous situations, orders repair of discovered defects, and ensures that code violations are corrected
Checks contractor calibrations of a variety of test instruments, confirms the testing on new and old equipment with various testing equipment
Inspects a variety of systems following fires and other natural disasters and develops the scope of work required to restore such systems to safe operating condition
Assists the Project Manager in writing multiple contract specifications and conducts reference and performance checks on new contracts being awarded
Determines validity of contractor cost estimates in accordance with provisions of agreement, reviews bills, authorizes payment, and discusses discrepancies with contractor
Monitors performance of contractors, and approves routine design changes as required
Ascertains existence of plans and specifications for proposed projects and prepares plans and specifications for contractors, if required
Contacts equipment suppliers to obtain delivery dates, replacement parts, warranty replacements and to discuss design deficiencies
Apprises supervisor of problems encountered during installation and recommends ways to improve Contractor workmanship
Provides advice and guidance on the installation of equipment, prepares as-built drawings, and obtains equipment manuals
Prepares reports for and receives general supervision from the Facilities Maintenance Division’s Maintenance Contracts Section Manager
Reviews or prepares as-built drawings
Performs or witnesses testing
Drives a vehicle to conduct WSSC Water business
Other Functions
- Serves as the Acting Maintenance Contracts Section Manager in their absence
- Performs other related duties as required

Required Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
- Working knowledge of the methods and practices involved in constructing, installing, maintaining, and operating a variety of equipment and appliances
- Working knowledge of possible defects and faults in a variety of systems, appliances and equipment and standard testing devices and effective corrective measures
Working knowledge of the requirements of the local and national codes and standards
Knowledge of the function and servicing of electrical, mechanical, or plumbing equipment
Ability to detect and locate defective installations and to ascertain the state of Projects and installation
Ability to prepare and work from a variety of project specifications and blueprints, drawings and diagrams
Ability to check calibration of testing instruments
Ability to maintain good interpersonal communication skills on inspectional and regulatory matters
Ability to use estimating program to provide the Project Manager with material and labor costs involved in various projects
Ability to suggest project corrections which will ensure compliance with codes
Minimum Education, Experience Requirements
- High School diploma or equivalent
- 3+ years of Journeyman trade level OR 7+ years’ work experience in one of the following trades: electrical, mechanical, plumbing, electronics, or instrumentation, including construction and installation work on a variety of projects
