POSITION SUMMARY

Above-average mechanical aptitude, welding, and fabrication skills are mandatory prerequisites. The Maintenance Technician will be responsible for general repairs and/or rebuilding of production equipment, associated support equipment, and/or minor repairs to the physical building itself. Must identify and use the proper inventory stockpiled for repair purposes and be familiar with all pertinent construction code regulations. Also involves the construction and repair of jigs and fixtures and coils used in the plant - for either general production, or experimental purposes. The Maintenance Technician will be responsible for the safe and efficient operation of any equipment utilized by him/her in the discharge of his/her responsibilities.

DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES

• Responsible for maintaining plant equipment, including preventative maintenance, and new equipment installation.
• Responsible for building maintenance as needed/required/directed.
• Performs all general maintenance duties including painting, cleaning, fixture/tooling fabrication, installing belts, bearings, chains, etc.
• Efficient and safe use of all basic hand and power tools and/or all applicable controls and survey equipment.
• Inventory and maintain stock levels of critical spare parts, as applicable.
• Become generally familiar with all types of furnaces, their construction, and their operation.
• Become thoroughly familiar with plant utilities (gas, water, hydro, combustible atmospheres, etc.) and their critical shutoff and/or control mechanisms.
• Troubleshoot / diagnose electrical circuits, control panels, motors, etc.
• Interacts with customers, vendors, auditors and all levels of employees in a courteous and professional manner.
• Must work in a manner consistent with the company QMS and EMS, as applicable. Must allow follow all PPE requirements.
• Brings any irregularities or other discrepancies / concerns to supervisor or management immediately.
• Practices and promotes safety and good housekeeping.
• Performs all other assigned duties.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Required skills must be acquired prior to qualification as Maintenance Technician. On-the-job training may be provided by Bluewater Thermal Solutions - South Bend. Required skills may be revised or waived at the discretion of the general manager

• High school diploma or equivalent schooling is required with a preferred background or technical courses in electronics, physicals or chemistry preferred.
• A general knowledge of the following is required: electricity, pneumatics, electronics, motors, welding and the operation of furnaces/heat treating equipment. The attendance at off-site manufacturer seminars may be necessary to provide expertise for specific equipment or company programs
• Communicate effectively orally and in writing. Must be able to communicate professionally
• Able to sit and stand for prolonged periods, bend, stoop and lift up to 50 lbs.
• Able to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, manuals, be detail oriented and possess manual dexterity.
• Computer / data entry, knowledge of PLC's preferred.
• May be exposed to heat, noise, humidity, fumes.
• Must be able to work overtime as needed and / or any shift as scheduled.
• Must be able to obtain and maintain status of certified forklift operator.
• Willing to participate in technical training courses related to heat treatment as requested or recommended by the Company.
• Ability to read and interpret operational /maintenance manuals as supplied by the manufacturer and/or Company Engineering.
• Desired Skills: Ability to make sound decisions based on evidence and willingness to expand knowledge through personal drive

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $20.00 - $23.00 per hour
