At Bell Nursery the Maintenance Manager will manage the overall maintenance department within a facility – including the management and oversight of Maintenance Technicians, coordination of all planned maintenance for a facility and chief advocate on safety initiatives - safety encompassing all facility equipment and processes to preserve the health, safety and welfare of employees within the respective site. He/she will also help with the overall maintenance, repair, upgrades, and improvements of a facility. This role will direct the activities of Maintenance Technicians that are direct reports but also perform regular maintenance and repairs of the greenhouse structure, production equipment, plumbing-PVC, and general housekeeping of the building. This is a hands-on role requiring basic knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems, with a focus on irrigation systems, greenhouse maintenance, and the installation and repair of production equipment.


Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Repairs mechanical equipment and machinery used in greenhouse operations
  • Perform preventative and scheduled maintenance on plant equipment
  • Ensuring functionality and reliability of all mechanical systems
  • Install and maintain new equipment
  • Troubleshoot mechanical and/or electrical issues
  • Assist/organize repairs as needed under the direction of the General Manager or Assistant General Manager


Skills & Competencies

  • Ability to work extended hours and weekends as needed
  • Ability to lift 40 pounds
  • Ability to drive maintenance equipment – necessary certifications

Requirements

  • Advanced technical degree/certification or equivalent work experience
  • General, if not better than average knowledge of power equipment, electric, and plumbing
  • Strong communication skills
  • Ability to perform under minimal supervision and exercise independent judgment in problem solving
  • Works well in both a team environment and independently
  • Knowledge and proven experience with OSHA requirements/standards for a production facility
  • OSHA non-negotiable training certification or ability to obtain within the first 3 months of employment
  • 10-Hour OSHA certification training or the ability to obtain within the first 6 months of employment
  • Adjusts to changing conditions and willingness to work off-shifts
  • Available for On Call Emergencies
  • Experience with Microsoft Office product suite and Outlook email
  • General management, scheduling and organizational skills
  • Bilingual skill set a benefit but not required
