Maintenance Painter Job at Kern Medical Center

Under direction, prepares a variety of surfaces for painting and applies paint and other decorative and protective coatings by brush or spray gun.

Essential Functions:

  • Mixes and matches paints; applies paint, varnishes, stains, lacquers, and enamels to building interior and exterior furniture, cement, and other materials.
  • Estimates time and material needs.
  • Erects scaffolding and removes or covers objects to protect them from spattered paint.
  • Applies paint by hand or paint spray machine to a variety of surfaces; prepares surfaces for painting by scraping, burning, sanding, or washing and by puttying nail holes and cracks;
  • Cleans brushes and other painting equipment.
  • May direct the work of others.

Other Functions:

  • Performs other job-related functions as required.

Employment Standards:

Any combination of training and experience equivalent to completion of the eighth grade and four (4) years of experience as an apprentice or helper under a journey painter.

Possession of a valid California Class B Driver's License may be required prior to the time of appointment, depending upon assignment.

Knowledge of:

Procedures, tools, equipment, and materials used in the painting trade; the methods of rigging scaffolding; preparing a wide variety of surfaces for painting; caring for brushes and painting equipment; preparing, mixing, blending, and preserving different painting materials.

Ability to:

Estimate time and materials needed to perform a job; mix and match paints; recommend blending, harmonizing, and contrasting colors; work from rigging and scaffolds; follow oral and written directions; assign and direct the work of others and use good body mechanics and follow basic safety practices in the performance of job duties.

If position responsibilities require driving a personal vehicle, then possession of a current valid California Driver’s License and adherence to the Kern County Hospital Authority Vehicle Use and Driving Standard Policy (ENG-EC-119) is required.

If position responsibilities require driving a vehicle owned, leased, or rented by Kern Medical, then possession of a current valid California Driver’s license, a signed authorization for Release of Drivers Record Information, and adherence to the Kern County Hospital Authority Vehicle Use and Driving Standard Policy (ENG-EC-119) is required.
