The Controls Technician reports to the Service Manager. He/she should expect to travel up to 60% domestically with occasional internationally. Be available for service related phone calls during off hours. When not in the field will need to report to the plant to assist with in house work. This will involve but is not limited to assembly, wiring and programing of equipment. Some service trips will extend through the weekend.

Assists in the creation of the description of the machine operation (DMO) for each product. Using this description, he/she writes the PLC program to enable the machine to function as outlined in the DMO. The Engineer is aware of all the options available for the control. He/she makes appropriate choices in selecting hardware for the task and is knowledgeable of all components used. The PLC code must be well documented and the logic written in a manner that would permit understanding by an experienced PLC technician.

Responsibilities:
  • Work safely and comply to company, customers and OSHA standards.
  • Assist with Development of PLC logic that controls labeling machines
  • Make necessary HMI user interface changes to communications links to the PLC
  • Create specifications for appropriate communications hardware to connect the control elements with input and output devices, programming device, HMI, and if appropriate networks
  • Develop or assist in development of motion control systems.
  • Provide field support for equipment in customers facilities either in person, or via phone.
  • Field service requires mechanical repairs and evaluate label application problems and make appropriate process changes.
  • New Installs and customer training.
  • Integrate line control from customers equipment to the company.
  • Create and maintain documentation for the above programs.
  • Conduct controls related training classes.
  • Perform other tasks as directed by management.
  • Perform other duties and overtime as required.
Qualifications:
  • Associate degree in Mechanical, Electrical Engineering, Engineering Technology or at least 5 years industry experience in writing motion and PLC code, Allen Bradley and BR experience is a plus.
  • Experience in working with electric power panels up to 480 V.
  • Experience in programming and specifying Motion, PLC VFD systems.
  • Proficient in writing technical documentation.
  • Experience in creating electrical schematics and prints using AutoCAD.
  • Proficient using Microsoft Office software.
  • Must be able to physically negotiate a manufacturing environment. Characteristics of this environment are:
Conveyor crossover steps, and raised platforms
Small isles (28 wide)
Standing for long periods of time
The candidate must have reasonable mechanical aptitude and experience with the use of common maintenance tools.
