Position: Maintenance Technician

Reports To: Maintenance Supervisor/Maintenance Manager

Location: Hazleton, PA

Northern Pelagic Group, LLC (“NORPEL”) is a manufacturer of pet food ingredients. We process seafood and meat products at our plant in New Bedford, MA and Hazle Township, PA for sale to pet food manufacturers for further processing. Our customers include most of the major pet food companies including Nestle Purina, Mars Petcare, JM Smucker Company, Blue Buffalo, Freshpet, and Champion Petfood.

Position Description:

Primary roles and responsibilities of the position are outlined below:

  • Perform upgrades to refrigerated warehouse space with Maintenance/Engineer team as required.
  • Maintain existing warehousing & production facilities
  • Inspect and repair machinery as well as facility systems like electrical and plumbing
  • Welding – repairing parts or systems
  • Assist in maintenance of company vehicles
  • Coordinate project status with supervisor to prevent unplanned production downtime
  • Required to work on all mechanical equipment repairs and maintenance programs to include supporting the development of a Norpel PM program.
  • Attend calls on lines, working on planned and unplanned Maintenance work,
  • Complete Work Orders to include Annual, Monthly, Weekly and Daily PM’s.
  • Support and manage Maintenance and Engineering projects as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Previous experience in facility / factory maintenance department is desired.
  • Ability to follow plans for repair and maintain mechanical and electrical equipment
  • Advanced understanding of general maintenance procedures and techniques.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Knowledge of hand and power tools such as drills, grinders, sanders in the set up and fitting for welding or in finishing of welds.
  • Physically capable of lifting as much as 100 pounds, and carrying 50 pounds
  • Must demonstrate strong problem-solving ability
  • Knowledge of electrical and hydraulic systems.
  • Effective problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must be well-organized and have ability to prioritize tasks
  • Computer savvy
  • Familiarity with use of a CMMS is not required but a plus.
  • Implement safety policies and procedures for department. Help drive Safety Culture in the Facility with the clear understanding that “Safety is Everyone Responsibility” however, the Maintenance Department is expected to “Lead by example and Drive Safety across the entire Facility”.

Education, Experience and Certifications

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Experience with general maintenance and repairs of electrical/mechanical systems in a food manufacturing facility is preferred
  • Certificate in HVAC, building maintenance technology or relevant field is preferred.
  • Previous experience in facility / factory maintenance including with conveyor belts, grinders, metal detectors, mills, evaporators

Pay rate commensurate with experience.

NORPEL is a rapidly growing company, and this position will require the individual hired to be able to manage multiple tasks and projects at the same time and demand strong communication skills as this role will be engaged with multiple team leaders throughout different departments within the company.

Other duties will be assigned as needed. This is not a complete list of required tasks, but a guideline as to daily tasks and responsibilities.

Pay: $26.00 - $33.00 per hour
