Overview: At BRF, we are experiencing a period of rapid growth as a result of successful relationships with existing customers and a rapid influx of new customers. To enable successful, sustainable long-term growth, BRF is building a dynamic engineering organization supporting each of its manufacturing sites. The engineering team plays an essential role in driving business and site KPI’s through the support of equipment reliability programs, implementation of standards, driving overall equipment effectiveness (OEE), execution of the capital portfolio, and partnership with the facilities team to ensure central utilities are operating efficiently, within compliance, and capable of meeting BRF’s growth objectives.

BRF is looking for a Engineering Manager who is responsible for managing all engineering activities relating to their assigned factory so that employee health & safety is ensured, food safety/quality is guaranteed, and that all engineering activities enhance product quality, plant performance and our business objectives. As a key member of the factory management team, the Engineering Manager will work alongside their site’s operational and functional leaders to play a critical role in the development and implementation of the strategic vision for the factory including short and long range capital planning.

Accountabilities and Deliverables
:
Directly lead and coordinate the site engineering team’s daily and long-range activities, ensuring the team’s skills, competencies, and performance consistently meets business objectives. Ensure resources are properly deployed against both short term production responses and long-range strategic goals. Demonstrate and promote BRF’s core values through their team.

Actively participate in the site’s daily performance monitoring and reporting cycle. Partner with operations leadership on root cause investigations and solution development to overcome performance issues (OEE, Safety, Quality).

In collaboration with the Sr. Director of Engineering, define, propose, and monitor the implementation of Safety, Quality, and Engineering Standards within the site. Through ownership of the Site’s Equipment/Process Management of Change (MOC) program, guide the engineering, maintenance, facilities, and operations teams in the proper reviews, work processes, and procedures required to execute changes within the site.

Propose and maintain Engineering expense budgets as well as the factory's capital investment plans. The Site Engineering Manager will plan and manage all approved capital projects executed by themselves or their team.

Contribute toward the Strategic and Tactical Leadership of the factory driving a TPM culture including implementation of the Early Management Pillar. This includes up front collaboration with R&D on new product introductions as well as standalone installation and startup of new assets.

Drive the implementation of Maintenance Best Practices and a Risk Based Maintenance (RBM) approach. Optimize Predictive Maintenance technologies (Condition Monitoring and inspections) to minimize unplanned downtime. Partner with the maintenance teams to utilize planned downtime for major equipment inspections and or overhauls.

Initiate and coordinate the implementation of new processes/technologies, including partnership with the Digital Team in the implementation of new platform solutions.

Qualifications:

Required Education
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Preferably Chemical or Mechanical. Other technical degrees will be considered with demonstrated experience leading a cross functional engineering team


Preferred Education/Experience:

  • Masters Degree or MBA Preferred


Required Experience

  • 7 or more years’ experience managing technical teams, while planning and executing commercialization and/or capital projects in a manufacturing setting.
  • The ideal candidate will have an in-depth knowledge of food processing plants, maintenance technologies, and operation of utilities in order to support day to day operations and future projects
  • Knowledge of food safety, regulatory requirements for food safety and hygienic engineering design (OSHA, SQF, FDA, EPA, DEC)
  • Experience implementing and administrating engineering programs required.
  • Experience with Batch and Continuous Processing and/or High-speed packaging equipment experience required; food and/or beverage manufacturing experience a plus.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Strong project management skills including planning, risk analysis and mitigation, prioritization, and resource management
  • Understanding of core financial analysis related to project justifications and relevant business drivers
  • CAPEX budgeting, preparation, and execution
  • Physical Asset and Maintenance Management including implementation of TPM Early Management programs
  • Industrial Services and Energy Management (NEMT)
  • Strong knowledge of processing equipment such as blending vessels, pumps, homogenizers, and thermal processing (HTST/UHT)
  • Able to apply root cause problem solving to systemically resolve complex short term and long-term issues and opportunities (RCCA Processes)
  • Strong organization and multi-tasking skills – ability to balance and prioritize several projects simultaneously


Language Ability:
Ability to read, write and interpret documents in English such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Ability to ready, understand, and modify P&ID’s is required.

Computer Skills: To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite. AutoCAD experience is required for equipment layouts and maintenance of the site master plan (3D or fabrication ready design capability is not required).
