The Manager of the Virginia Festival the Book at Virginia Humanities supervises key projects and activities related to the Festival, including logistics, partnering, and physical and virtual implementation of programs. The Manager is responsible for supervising dedicated Festival volunteers and coordinating efforts with Virginia Humanities program, communications, finance, and advancement staff. The Manager supports the Center for the Book's statewide program mission to unite communities of readers, writers, artists, and book lovers in a special event held each March.

In the leadup to March, and with support from Virginia Humanities staff, interns, and volunteers, the Manager will coordinate a multi-date event schedule of engaging programming for adults and youth in a variety of genres. At other times of the year, the Manager will create partnerships and scout new in-kind sponsorships, support fundraising goals, work with events venues, hire and recruit staff and volunteers, and refine the work plan.

The Manager of the Virginia Festival of the Book reports to the Director of Virginia Center for the Book at Virginia Humanities and is responsible for upholding all policies of the organization and the University of Virginia; supporting the organization's strategic plan; gathering data and evaluations for compliance with UVa and federal reporting; participating in and executing robust fundraising and communications plans for the Festival; and working in collaboration with a variety of volunteers, stakeholders, committee members, hosting organizations, and sponsors.

Virginia Humanities is the state's humanities council headquartered at the University of Virginia, an equal opportunity employer, in partnership with a nonprofit Board (Virginia Foundation for the Humanities). The Board collaborates and participates with staff in service of all Virginians. The dynamic, collaborative organization includes the weekly public radio show "With Good Reason," the online Encyclopedia Virginia, statewide Grants & Fellowships, among other programs.

Qualified candidates must have a bachelor's degree with at least four years of experience. Candidates will possess superb organizational skills, attention to detail, the ability to work with a wide array of stakeholders, and excellent written, verbal, and public communication skills.

We will begin review of the pool in April 2023 with a desired start date in spring/summer 2023.

The Manager will undertake statewide travel as necessary and be afforded opportunities for conference travel and training. This position will require the ability to move equipment up to 30 pounds for various events, travel some distance to attend meetings and the ability to do repetitive tasks in and out of the office setting. The festival's office suite is within the Virginia Humanities work site in Charlottesville; flexible remote work options are available but fully remote work is not possible.

This position is a restricted position and is dependent upon project need, availability of funding and performance. Anticipated Hiring Range: $70,000-$75,000 commensurate with education and experience. This is an Exempt level, benefited position.
