SUMMARY: Reporting to the Territory Executive Director, with a dotted line to the Vice President of Volunteer Engagement, the Managing Director, Volunteer Engagement serves as the principal program leader for all volunteer engagement activities within the territory. In coordination with other Territory Managing Directors (Care Services, Development, and Advocacy), the Managing Director, Volunteer Engagement will ensure consistent and effective volunteer programs across key enterprise functions within the territory including volunteer recruitment, orientation, training, and program evaluation while providing staff leadership and support to the Territories Community Leadership Councils.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Core duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Develop and implement a consistent and effective volunteer program in support of mission and fundraising activities within the territory
  • Cultivate and support effective, diverse Community Leadership Councils resulting in revenue growth and market impact
  • Build strong and effective partnerships with volunteers and supporters and help foster a culture of accountability and recognition.
  • Ensure collaboration between mission and fundraising staff and volunteers
  • Ensure the territory develops and maintains a pipeline of qualified community leaders interested and able to serve on Association Committees and the Board of Trustees
  • Implement recruitment and training activities that ensure the Association meets its diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) objectives
  • Ensure volunteer leaders are engaged in a way that builds a community of mission advocates
  • Convey an image that reflects favorably on The ALS Association.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Directly supervises Volunteer Engagement staff
  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
  • Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's Degree (BA) from four-year college or university, or seven years of related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Seven years of progressive leadership experience in a non-profit organization recruiting and retaining high-level volunteer leaders and board members. Demonstrated ability to work and cultivate relationships across a variety of sectors, communities, and levels to ensure mission alignment and reach.
  • Experience in coordinating with multiple staff leaders over various functional areas
  • Detail-oriented with strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong leadership/management skills with the ability to motivate volunteers and staff
  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Five years of experience of program management within a nonprofit setting.
  • Demonstrated proactive approaches to problem-solving with strong decision-making capability
  • Emotional maturity
  • Highly resourceful team player, with the ability to also be extremely effective independently\
  • Demonstrated ability to achieve high-performance goals and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Computer skills required: (Accounting Software; Contract Management Systems; Development Software; Human Resource Systems; Microsoft Office; Payroll Systems; Project Management Software; Video Conferencing Software such as Zoom and Teams.)
  • Ability to travel on Association business as required.

PAY TRANSPARENCY:

The ALS Association’s pay range for this position is $105,000 - $125,000 annually.

The ALS Association has compensation ranges for various work locations throughout the United States, allowing us to compensate employees competitively and consistently in diverse geographic markets. The above-listed listed range shows prospective compensation for this role; the appropriate range will be established by what is eventually determined to be the candidate's primary work location. Various factors, including the complexity and significance of the role, job duties/requirements, relevant experience and abilities, and primary work location, determine individual compensation. Compensation ranges are evaluated and typically adjusted on a regular basis. Offers are made within the compensation range that is in effect at the time of the job offer.

The Association may, at its discretion, offer merit-based increases tied to individual performance. The benefits listed may differ depending on employment status with the Association.
