ZLA Solutions has partnered with a client in St. Clair, MI looking to direct hire/onboard a Material Planner.

Role Summary

Under the direction of the Materials Manager, the Materials Planner ensures accurate releases are sent out to the Suppliers & timely receipt of purchase parts from suppliers and serves as the primary contact for suppliers and logistics carriers as well as maintaining an accurate inventory within the ERP system.

Key Responsibilities

  • Attends departmental and plant-wide communication meetings as scheduled.
  • Attends training as scheduled.
  • Complies with, supports and models company operational procedures/policies, Employee Handbook, and Employee’s Charter, Corporate Constitution, and Operational Principles.
  • Complies with relevant Quality and Environmental programs (e.g. IATF16949, ISO14001).
  • Complies with all Health and Safety programs in accordance with OSHA. Follows and ensures Company procedures regarding safety rules and regulations are followed.
  • Possesses excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Conducts themselves in a professional manner.
  • Keeps work area clean and organized.
  • Utilize ERP (CMS) to generate release forecasts (830’s) and daily ship schedules (862’s) to Suppliers.
  • Determine appropriate stock levels and required space for purchase parts, help create layouts and picking routes for material delivery.
  • Maintain JIT communications with Supplier and ensure Suppliers are shipping to the provided 862 releases.
  • Work with Supplier on past dues and escalate as needed.
  • Clearly communicate all deviations, shortage or overages daily and reasons for the change.
  • Analyze Supplier releases to ensure Supplier orders support our Production plan.
  • Communicate any component shortages to Materials Manager and follow our escalation process.
  • Work with Engineering, Production, Finance and other departments with co coordinating Engineering Changes.
  • Takes part in the continuous improvement process to improve productivity and quality (provides suggestions at team meetings, understands losses and gives ideas/solutions, participates in trials/experiments, volunteers on committee or focus group activities, etc.) and focuses on solutions.
  • Assist with BOM reviews.
  • Assist with annual MMOG self-audit.
  • Other duties as required.

  • Demonstrate a maturity of judgement, leadership skills, attention to detail and exceptional organizational, listening, communication and presentation skills in all aspects of the job function.
  • Excellent math skills with the ability to apply to cost and analyze data.
  • Ability to work flexible hours in a fast-paced environment in order to meet customer requirements
  • Must be able to interact effectively with other team members
  • Able to appreciate and maintain proper level of confidentiality, using discretion and tact.
  • Provide data to Materials team to promote lean inventory levels in accordance with defined safety stock levels.
  • Contribute to Daily Production Meeting to maintain open intra-departmental communication.
  • Perform daily audits on Supplier receipts and empty returns to the Suppliers.
  • Assist Senior Inventory Analyst to maintain accurate Purchase Inventory in CMS.
  • Work closely with all departments that impact inventory accuracy to determine root cause for inventory inaccuracies.
  • Work as a Team and support/backup other Materials Analysts.
  • Maintain departmental filing system.
  • Assist in physical inventory events.

Additional Information

  • Highschool Diploma
  • Associates degree preferred
  • Hands on ERP usage and understanding

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $60,000.00 - $80,000.00 per year
