POSITION SUMMARY

Spicer Group is seeking a talented and motivated mechanical engineer to join our Municipal Service Group. This position is a great fit for someone who can work within our multi-disciplinary team to assist clients with their infrastructure needs all over the state of Michigan. Typical project work includes wastewater treatment plants and processes, pump stations, municipal buildings, and commercial facilities. Those in this position can expect to perform multiple aspects of engineering assignments, including HVAC, process, plumbing, hydraulic, and hydronic designs. This position is being offered with the flexibility of working out of any of our Michigan offices. This opportunity is great for someone looking to broaden their skill sets or lead a project team.

Job Requirements:

A TYPICAL DAY ON THE JOB

This position includes project management, project design, and client representation responsibilities. The right candidate for this position has proven design abilities, a strong team player attitude, and a minimum of 3 years’ experience in HVAC (including load calculations), plumbing, and process systems calculations. Additional responsibilities will be equipment selection, specifications, and system layouts related to municipal infrastructure, wastewater treatment systems, and municipal or commercial buildings.
On a daily basis, this position will:

  • Create and manage the mechanical engineering portions of design on projects from the initial design phase through construction including HVAC, plumbing, process, and fire protection system designs.
  • Prepare and modify engineering documents, bid documents, construction drawings, system and equipment layout, diagrams, schematics, and schedules consistent with required standards.
  • Provide assistance with engineering activities including calculations, fixture selections, code reviews, and QAQC.
  • Develop solutions to technical and design problems following established standards.
  • Use discipline-specific software to assist with the design, including data collection, analysis, and equipment selection.
  • Visit construction sites, reviewing construction progress and acting as the client representative on-site.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited college or university
  • 3-7+ years of relevant work experience
  • Professional Engineer in Michigan or Engineer In Training (EIT) with the ability to obtain P.E. license within 12 months of hire date
  • Excellent computer skills, with preference given for experience in some or all the following: AutoCAD, ArcGIS, SWMM, HEC-HMS, and HEC-RAS
  • Prior design experience with civil engineering projects
  • Valid driver license
  • Can easily communicate with coworkers and clients orally and in written form
