Position Summary:

The Community Colleges use a wide range of audio-visual equipment and systems for instructing students and communicating among staff and public. These audio-visual services involve such media as television, video and audio recording, post-production editing, desk top publishing and copying or print reproduction. The Media Assistant provides technical support for the use and maintenance of that equipment and those systems at a Community College.

The position’s role is that of storing, lending, scheduling and performing basic maintenance and adjustment of the audio-visual equipment and assisting users in its operation to produce instructional and communications products. In addition, the position may operate or oversee a reproduction service which involves the use of copy machines, offset printers and desk top publishing services.

Incumbents must possess proven ability to effectively work with a culturally, linguistically, and ethnically diverse faculty, staff, and student. They are expected to have excellent oral and written communication skills along with strong Information technology literacy skills such as Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams etc.)

Minimum Qualifications:

Associate’s degree in an appropriately related field together with from one to two years of experience in a related field; or a combination of education, training and experience which would lead to the competencies required for successful performance of the position’s essential duties.

Successful Candidate must have or must possess:

  • Experience with Audio-visual production and print reproduction techniques and methods
  • Experience with Audio-visual, copying, and basic bindery equipment operation and general maintenance
  • Experience instructing and advising users in multi-media production techniques and methods

Example of Job Duties:
Under the direction of the Director of Media Services or other administrator, the Media Assistant is accountable for contributing to the usefulness of the College’s learning resources by effective performance in these essential functional areas:

  • Operation of media services
    • accountable for supporting the audio-visual needs of faculty, students and staff by performing and overseeing the operation of the College’s media services.
  • Advice and assistance to faculty, students and staff
    • accountable for assisting in the creation and production of media presentations
  • Operation of copy services (where assigned)
    • accountable for the effective and efficient operation of the College’s copy services to support the print media and reproduction needs of the College

Salary:
$30.75 hourly.
