Full-Time Certified Medical Assistant

HOURS: 36 - 40 hours per week

Monday - Friday 8:30am-5:00pm, with occasional need to arrive early to assist with procedures.

Job Summary

The medical assistant is responsible for office-based patient care under the supervision of our surgeons, and for appropriate documentation of services. In addition, they perform general receptionist and clerical duties in order to facilitate efficient functioning of Clinical Services. Medical assistant support ensures that our clinic runs smoothly and our patients receive high-quality, efficient patient care.

Essential Functions

  • Provides direct care to patients including assisting with procedures under the direct supervision of licensed personnel.
  • Performs pre-physician exam preparation (walks patient in room, takes vital signs as per area standard, etc).
  • Assists with obtaining information for patient care such as chart preparation, prior authorizations, lab reports, clinical summaries and dictation retrieval.
  • Provides non–direct patient care/support services to staff under the direction of licensed personnel.
  • Ensures that all rooms are cleaned and stocked as directed.
  • Monitors task buckets as assigned or directed.
  • Assists with prescription refills.
  • Assists with insurance referrals, OMPRO’s, waivers, FMLA and other documentation requirements.
  • Assists with cleaning instruments and the autoclaving process.
  • Assists with answering department telephone as needed.
  • Possesses excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to organize the work of the clinical team and to effectively problem-solve.
  • Serves as resource for clinical quality and safety standards.
  • Assists with other duties as assigned.

Education and/or Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Certified Medical Assistant experience required.

Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Provides prompt, accurate service to internal and external customers.
  • Has working knowledge of clinic’s exposure control plans/blood borne and airborne pathogens.
  • Promotes effective working relations and works effectively as part of a team to facilitate the center’s ability to meet its goals and objectives.
  • Demonstrates the skills and judgment necessary to provide direct care to patients under the direct supervision of licensed personnel and Providers.
  • Demonstrates the skills and judgment necessary to provide clinical treatments.
  • Has basic knowledge of ICD-9 (ICD-10) and CPT/HCPS coding procedures.
  • Has strong typing skills and working knowledge of computer systems, particularly with a windows-based environment. Experience with electronic health records, preferred.
  • Communicates effectively with patients and co-workers.
  • Possesses basic knowledge of medical office documentation standards and medical terminology.
  • Displays excellent customer services skills at all times.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

  • BLS certification required.
  • Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) through RMA (Registered Medical Assistant) or AAMA (American Academy of Medical Assistants) required.
