Position Summary:
Reporting to Advance Practitioner or designee, the Medical Assistant III performs a variety of direct and indirect patient care activities. The MA III promotes patients self-management and empowers students, patients/families to achieve maximum levels of wellness and independence.
The MA III will actively engage in care team huddles, clinical meetings, and quality improvement activities. The MA III will seek opportunities to gain experience from others, be open to adapting best practices into their work and effectively communicate those areas which they feel uncomfortable or need to improve upon to their supervisors.
The MA III will contribute to the orientation and development of new personnel, as well as mentor peers and promote collaborative teamwork. The MA III is committed to the constant pursuit of organizational excellence and improving the health status of the community.
The MA III must exemplify the core values and mission of the organization, always exercising utmost discretion, diplomacy, and tact in patient/staff interaction. The MA III will complete certifications within six months to become a Medical Assistant that is proficient in Vaccine Administration, Point of Care Testing and Phlebotomy.
The Medical Assistant will work as a member of the clinical team and support providers by delivering excellent patient care and customer service.
Primary Location for this position is Randolph, MA.,

Primary Responsibilities:
Routine Patient Care.
o Interview patients
o Collect data, information, and vital signs pertinent to visit (examples include blood pressure, height, vision, and pulse oximetry).
o Perform screenings pertinent to visit.
o Assist with interpretation between providers, co-workers and patients as needed.
o Assist during medical examinations and minor procedures.
o Perform/assist with finger sticks, EKGs, hearing and vision, etc.
o Secures patient information by completing and safeguarding medical records and keeping patient information confidential.


Preparation

o Prepare exam room for correct procedure.
o Prepare and clean treatment rooms and medical instruments (sterilization).

Clinical Support
o Assist providers, as necessary.
o Obtain specimens as directed.
o Perform Point of Care Testing according to protocol.
o Assist during medical examinations and minor procedures.
o Performs blood draws.

Worksite
o Maintain a safe patient care environment.
o Follow all Joint Commission and OSHA standards.
o Follow all infection-control policies and protocols.

Delegate within Scope of Practice
o Oversee Medical Assistants assignments (i.e., the board, lunch coverage, rooming, and stocking).
o Perform orientation and training of new staff and externs per the request of a nurse or AP.
o Create the daily assignments under the direction of the clinical supervisor or designee.

Administrative
o Perform pre-visit, inter-visit and post visit activities.
o Complete forms for patients as requested.
o Maintain supplies and equipment, notify Nursing Supervisor or designee ahead of needs.
o Excellent time management skills and ability to multi-task and prioritize work.
o Complete all mandatory training and competencies in a timely manner.
o Follow the process for fax and mail as directed by the Supervisor or designee.
o Check-out patients assist with scheduling patients for follow-up appointment.

Vaccine Administration
o Monitoring Vaccine Storage/Handlings
o Continuing Education in Vaccines
o Knowledge in assigned Vaccines for Children/Adults (guidelines and requirements).

Communication, Outreach & Student/ Patient & Family Engagement
o Maintain a professional, courteous, and positive manner with all contacts.
o Convey information clearly in writing and verbally.
o Respond to inquiries accurately and in a timely manner.
o Listen with empathy and support patients with compassion.
o Participate in Health & Wellness Events.
o Performs outreach calls, register patients and schedule appointments.
o Promote Practice.

Teamwork
o Work professionally and collaboratively with co-workers.
o Participate in achieving practice goals and key performance indicators.
o Share knowledge and expertise willingly.
o Support and assist with care coordinate for students, patients, and families.
o Assistance, as needed.

Performs other duties, as assigned.


Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Must be a graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant program
  • Must hold current CPR certification
  • Certified Medical Assistant strongly preferred
  • Strong clinical skills, including point of care testing and phlebotomy
  • Familiarity with clinical processes and procedures and medical terminology
  • Able to perform vital signs, obtain pertinent health information including but not limited to temperature, pulse, respirations, blood pressure, height, and weight
  • Able to participate in the medication reconciliation processes and related prescription management tasks including prior authorizations
  • Knowledge and ability to perform specific procedures and tests appropriate to the clinical setting Strong customer service skills
  • Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office
  • Experience with Practice Management and Electronic Health Record systems, a plus
  • Able to maintain strictest confidentiality.
  • Able to communicate with all levels of organization.
  • Able to handle multiple tasks and prioritize work.
  • Able to comprehend complex orders
  • Strives in a fast-paced environment and stays calm during stressful situations. Flexible and able to adapt to changing situations
