Scribe / Clinical Information Manager (CIM)

Scribes / Clinical Information Managers (CIMs) will assist Emergency Medicine (EM) physicians with various administrative aspects of patient care in the Emergency Department. These administrative aspects include assisting with recording the EM physician medical record documentation (electronic or paper) of patient history, review of systems, physical exam findings, progress notes, procedure notes, follow-up of laboratory and diagnostic results, arranging and expediting consults, and assisting with recording the documentation for patient admission, transfer or discharge plan and follow-up. CIMs will work closely with EM physicians assigned to the department and will be part of Emergency Medicine team.

Positions are available at the following locations:

-San Diego (Palomar Health: Escondido & Poway)
-Temecula Valley Hospital

Training is ~90 days and you will be paid for training hours:

2-3 weeks in the classroom / Zoom (mandatory)

~9 weeks in the Emergency Department

Training dates to be determined.

The next round of training will likely occur in August-September 2022.

Due to extensive training resources, a 2 year commitment to the program is expected.

DUTIES AND TASKS of Scribe / Clinical Information Manager (CIM):

  • Under the direction of EM providers: Assist providers in charting (electronic or paper) by recording the documentation of an accurate, concise, and complete patient history and review of systems based on patient-provider interactions, recording a physical exam based on a provider’s dictation, accurately transferring lab and radiology results/interpretations from the electronic system or as dictated by providers or other emergency department staff, recording progress notes or procedures notes, clinical impressions, plan, follow-up, and after care instructions.
  • Under the direction of EM providers: Assist providers in managing patient flow by notifying them when the results of laboratory or diagnostic studies are available.
  • Monitor charts to ensure timely completion including history, review of systems physical exam, labs, diagnostic studies, ECGs, initial assessment and plan, progress notes, procedure notes, impression/diagnosis, discharge plan with disposition, and signatures. Send incomplete charts back to the appropriate provider(s) as needed.
  • Under the direction of EM providers: Assist in recording the documentation of patient admission, transfer, or discharge plan and follow-up.
  • Under the direction of EM providers: Communicate with other hospital personnel through face-to-face conversations, paging, phone calls, and e-mails.
  • Navigate electronic records to retrieve previous medical records, prior labs results, etc.
  • Administer patient surveys as requested.
  • Assist supervisor with other administrative duties as needed.
  • Assist with the training of new Scribe hires as needed.

Job Types: Full-time, Part-time

Pay: From $15.50 per hour

Schedule:

  • 8 hour shift
  • Day shift
  • Monday to Friday
  • Weekend availability
