This position will be based out of Washington DC and will be a hybrid model of remote and required in-office work. Existing work authorization is required at the time of application submission. WRI is unable to sponsor visa work authorization for this position.


About the Program:

Launched in 2019, Cool Food is a unique initiative which brings together a growing number of food service providers, restaurants, retailers, governments, schools, and hospitals, and help them cut their food-related greenhouse gas emissions while serving delicious food. Over the past three years, WRI has been building Cool Food’s foundation. Currently there are nearly 70 members and the next phase is to dramatically scale its impact.



Job Highlight:

We are looking for a motivated and experienced project manager and relationship builder to join the membership team and help to run the Cool Food Initiative. A team player who is proactive and able to multitask looking at the detail but also the bigger picture, have a proven track record of working with figures and management reporting. You will manage the growing membership base of the Cool Food Initiative working closely with internal and external partners. You will engage with current members and partners to improve the membership experience and identify membership growth opportunities to expand the services that members use. In addition, you will be responsible for managing the end -to-end membership process from onboarding, through renewals and reporting. This is a pivotal position within WRI’s sustainable diets team of scientists, project managers and communication. Supported by Head of Cool Food - Membership Development and Membership Engagement Co-Ordinator Report to Head of Cool Food - Membership Development


What will you do:

Account management and member engagement (70%):

  • Manage the Cool Food Initiative by putting in place processes for membership renewals to ensure the smooth running for the current members
  • Oversee Cool Food membership onboarding by establishing a formalized onboarding process.
  • Working closely with the Membership Engagement Co-Ordinator to implement this process.
  • Hold regular check-ins with Cool Food members to ensure they are on track toward reducing their GHG targets.
  • Work with the Head of Cool Food - Membership Development and Head of Cool Food to support with larger members as and when required.
  • Contribute to development of outreach materials for Cool Food members (e.g., web material, blog articles, LinkedIn posts).
  • Look at ways of members working collaboratively together.
  • Working in conjunction with the Head of Cool Food – Membership Development and the wider Sustainable diets team develop a calendar of Membership events.
  • In consultation with the team host and design content of webinars in conjunction with the Head of Cool Food – Membership Development.
  • Design the annual membership feedback survey, distribute to members, collate and present feedback.
  • Work with the Membership Product Development team to refine the membership offer.
  • Collaborate with the Communications and Marketing team to generate case studies of best practice among members for sharing with clients.
  • Work with the Membership Engagement Co-Ordinator to manage a small group of smaller members.


Identifying growth opportunities amongst existing members (20%):

  • Identify areas of opportunity to grow members in terms of services, meals, sites, locations, and group businesses and revenue.
  • Identify target priority members to focus on and put an account management plan in place to grow their membership.
  • Work with Head of Cool Food - Membership Development and Head of Cool Food on any support they may need for larger members.


Membership management reporting and WRI processes (10%):

  • Set up and manage a streamlined membership management reporting process working with the Head of Cool Food - Membership Development and the Membership Engagement Co-Ordinator to ensure an accurate overview of the membership management reporting.
  • Ensure the accuracy and completeness of all the membership information and report on a weekly basis.
  • Using Salesforce and other WRI systems to input and track membership information


What will you need:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in business, food and nutrition, environmental science, behavioral science, environmental policy, or another relevant field
  • Experience: 3+ years of work experience
  • Passion for sustainability and working for an NGO
  • Experience of running a membership program or similar program
  • Strong interpersonal skills, highly motivated, inquisitive, and proactive and has experience of client facing roles and understand the importance listening to clients
  • Previous experience or engagement with contract caterers, restaurants, and food companies an advantage
  • Ability to work with external partners in a professional and collaborative manner
  • Experience of running events
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, OneNote) and the Internet
  • Experience of Salesforce and LinkedIn
  • Ability to present complex information in a clear and concise manner; excellent verbal, writing and presentation skills
  • Ability to adapt to rapidly changing priorities and be able to think creatively and innovatively
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work under pressure with tight deadlines and be an excellent planner and organizer
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced working environment, both independently and as part of a global team across time zones, so may need to be flexible with working hours on an occasional basis


Potential Salary:

The salary range for this position is 69,000 USD - 78,000 USD if filled by a candidate located and legally able to work in the US. Salary is commensurate with experience and other compensable factors.
