Job Overview
Healthright 360 in partnership with Contra Costa County, manages the Contra Costa Network. The Network provides linkages through Case Management. Core services include Transitional housing, Substance Use Disorder, and Mental Health linkages, Peer mentoring System Navaigation, Educational Opportunities, Vocational Preparation and Placement, Family Reunification and Legal aid. The Network functions as a broad-based collaborative system working in partnership with local law enforcement, County agencies, community-based and faith based organizations to provide integrated whole-person care designed to optimize successful outcomes and reduce recidivism.

The Mentor/Volunteer Coordinator, provides outreach to the community to recruit, identify, vet, and train a team of Mentor/Navigator volunteers to assist clients as they move through the Reentry Network. Will be a critical resource for assisting Probation and the Field Operations Coordinators keeping track of and supporting AB 109 probationers as they access the Reentry Network’s services and providers. Must be organized and detail-oriented, comfortable working with diverse stakeholders and the general public, and have excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Must have some experience in program coordination.

Key Responsibilities

  • Organizing, coordinating, and managing the recruitment of volunteers to serve as Mentor/Navigators and/or assist the Reentry Network Team.
  • Representing the Reentry Network at community events and working with social, civic, and local organizations to develop partnerships, where appropriate, to develop and/or utilize volunteers.
  • Identify community outreach opportunities such as job fairs, cultural festivals, local markets, and organizations. Coordinating and participating in screening, interviewing, and training of volunteers. Creating volunteer program materials (updating procedures and protocols, applications, volunteer agreements, orientation handbooks, etc.).
  • Assisting Mentor/Navigators in developing goals and reentry plans for their assigned Mentees.
  • Problem-solving with Mentor/Navigators concerning aspects of their assignments.
  • Attending and co-facilitating monthly Mentor Supervision meetings, and reports to staff on volunteer activities as needed.
  • Planning, coordinating, and implementing specialized training program and orientation for new volunteers.
  • Providing post-training support to facilitate their understanding of Contra Costa County’s reentry system and processes, and psychosocial dynamics involving their Mentee.
  • Collaborating with other Mentoring agencies in the County serving similar populations.
  • Relationship development between No Wrong Door sites and reentry service providers. Training NWD sites for consistent operation across the network; these trainings help to reduce stigma and increase knowledge of barriers/resources for returning residents
Education and Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Valid California Driver’s License, reliable vehicle, and willingness to travel regularly (mileage allowance provided); or High School Diploma or its equivalent and or Associates of Arts degree or Bachelor of Arts degree in related field.
  • Must undergo a background investigation and criminal records check to obtain clearance to work at criminal justice institutions.
  • Final approval is contingent upon clearance by the Contra Costa Sheriff’s Department and Contra Costa probation Department.
  • Comfortable working with the criminal justice population. Culturally competent and able to work with a diverse population from various backgrounds.
  • Knowledge of community resources.
  • Excellent public and community relations, negotiation, mediation, conflict management, and meeting facilitation skills.
  • Strong Customer service skills and having the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, volunteers, and community partners.
  • Demonstrates the ability to inspire community participation and experience working with coalition building or collaborative efforts.
  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, specifically Word, Outlook, and Internet applications Professionalism, punctuality, flexibility, and reliability.
