Job Summary*
The Mobile Engagement and Transportation Safety Specialist position is responsible for safely transporting staff both to and from the Treatment in Motion (TIM) location and engaging patients within the community while connecting them with the services/resources they are seeking. The primary function of this position is to ensure that patients and staff are provided with a safe and therapeutic environment. This position will foster relationships and community building by providing patient-centered services from a harm reduction perspective utilizing motivational interviewing, therapeutic verbal de-escalation, and trauma- informed care approaches.
The population Evergreen Treatment Services (ETS) provides service to includes individuals who have experienced homelessness and trauma and may exhibit challenging behaviors associated with intoxication and/or mental illness. The Mobile Engagement and Transportation Safety Specialist must have excellent skills in; setting limits with patients when needed, verbal de-escalation skills, administrative abilities, attention to detail and regular multi-tasking. The ability to maintain safety and patient flow in a highly stimulating urban environment is required.
The Mobile Engagement and Transportation Safety Specialist position will act as part of a team to provide supportive services to patients. This will require developing positive relationships with all ETS staff and collaborating with agencies to effectively coordinate and deliver services. The nature of this position is extremely independent, requiring creative thinking, excellent interpersonal relationships, and conflict resolution skills. The central purpose of this position is to ensure a safe transition to the TIM location where staff may provide a welcoming community environment in which patients feel a sense of respect and belonging and, in turn, access resources needed to improve their quality of life.

This position has an integral role in maintaining a safe and therapeutic environment within a highly stimulating urban setting by maintaining order and patient flow, while connecting patients to the services and resources they are seeking.

  • Safe operation and driving of a 20-foot RV-style vehicle in areas of high traffic
  • Setup and breakdown of a mobile treatment facility in an urban environment
  • Helps create a safe and therapeutic environment by welcoming patients to the Treatment in Motion location
  • Develops professional rapport and trusting relationships with patients through respectful, person-centered engagement practices.
  • Orients new patients to the remote TIM location and patient flow in and out of the space while maintaining a hospitable and friendly demeanor.
  • Monitors patients’ activities within the immediate vicinity of the remote treatment location with the intent to address any potential safety risks or violations of program rules and regulations.
  • Submits incident reports or other relevant documentation when appropriate.
  • Monitors and reports hazardous materials and conditions.
  • Works in collaboration with Counselors and Case Managers to support individual service plans for patients with challenging behaviors.
  • Demonstrates highest level of integrity and maintain exceptional levels of confidentiality related to 42 CFR part II and HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability).
  • Conduct twice-daily safety inspection of mobile treatment unit both in the check-out and check-in of the vehicle to its secured location through the completion of a verified checklist
  • Routinely maintains critical functions to the operation of the mobile treatment vehicle such as; fill-and-dump of gray water tank, tire pressure checks, fluid level checks, filling of the gas tank
  • Assists with receiving and stocking supplies for the mobile treatment unit.
  • Assists police, fire, EMS, and all other emergency service providers in the performance of their duties while responding to the remote treatment location.
  • Responds to all mobile treatment facility alarm activations including but not limited to security, duress, fire, and intrusion alarms.
  • Helps implement systems to support patients with behavioral issues in a highly stimulating urban environment.
  • Attends ETS team meetings and other required meetings.
  • Always follow all ETS policies and procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Undergraduate degree highly desirable
  • Academic training in the social service or SUDP/SUDPT field highly desirable
  • A minimum of two years of experience in work related to social work or outreach programs required
  • Experience driving a truck, van, or RV in an urban environment with heavy street traffic
  • Experience providing services to addicted individuals from a harm reduction perspective preferred
  • Experience with case management, homelessness, and co-occurring disorders highly desirable

Other Requirements

  • Possession of a valid Washington State Motor Vehicle Operator’s License with acceptable driving record.
  • Must be able to work the agreed upon shifts, which may include Saturday’s.
  • Computer literate, with basic knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, automated billing software, and electronic medical records systems, as well as an elevated level of initiative in keeping current with technological change. A willingness to expand computer skills as requested.
  • Ability to prioritize workload and activities of self and staff, ability to supervise others and follow through on assigned tasks to assure completion in a timely manner.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and switch between tasks quickly.
  • Dependable, able to work under pressure; receptive to change, willingness to learn, cooperative approach to problem-solving
  • Relies on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, patients, and outside contacts from a wide variety of ethnic, socioeconomic, and cultural backgrounds; good diplomatic skills; including strong conflict-resolution skills.
  • Flexible team player and strong planning skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail as well as analytical and observational skills.
  • Good basic clerical skills including typing, ability to proof own work, good grammar, and spelling.
  • Must be able to pass a criminal background check.

Language Skills

  • Ability to read and interpret general business correspondence, policies and procedures, referral information, financial documentation, and applicable government regulations.
  • Ability to write business letters, uncomplicated reports, instructions, and procedures.
  • Ability to present information effectively and respond to questions from patients, staff, referral sources and the public.
  • Ability to communicate over a handheld radio clearly and effectively

Mathematical Skills and Reasoning Ability

  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where standardization may be limited. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, schedule or diagram format.
  • Basic math skills.

Physical Requirements

  • The employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear; frequently required to stand, walk, and kneel; occasionally to climb, balance, or stoop; rarely to crouch or crawl.
  • The employee must lift and/or move up to 30 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include clothes, color and peripheral vision and the ability to adjust focus. The noise level in the work environment is moderate to high.

Our Clinic Services team provides medication, counseling, and treatment to more than 3,000 people with substance use disorder at three clinics in Seattle, Renton, and Olympia, Washington. REACH provides street-based social services for more than 4,000 people living outside or unstably housed, many of whom have had interactions with the criminal legal system. Many ETS participants have endured trauma and harm from broken and oppressive institutional systems that are often the root cause of their substance use.
