Mission
EdAdvance is one of Connecticut's six Regional Educational Service Centers (RESCs). Our mission as the RESC in western Connecticut to is to promote the success of area school districts and their communities. EdAdvance is also a partner in the RESC Alliance and works collaboratively with the other RESC groups to support state-wide initiatives. In addition, EdAdvance operates five specialized school programs for students who are requiring educational placement outside of their district.

Van Monitors

Overview: We are seeking caring and reliable Special Needs Van Monitors to assist the van driver in safely transporting students to and from out-of-district placements. The position is either full-time or part-time with summer hours required. We offer a competitive hourly rate and a comprehensive benefits package, including paid sick days, holidays, and personal time off for our full-time staff.

Major Responsibilities:

• Create a safe, comfortable and orderly atmosphere for passengers.
• Safely, reliably, and courteously, support students with special needs as they are transported to and from school or to other educational placement facilities.
• Must be able to establish a positive relationship with children and maintain order and handle emotional or behavioral challenges of students.
• Must be able to secure students in a seat belt or harness
• Must be able to safely enter and disembark a van multiple times during the day
• Must be able to move around the van to help students on an off the van

Qualifications:

• Ability to communicate effectively with children, parents, teachers and staff
• Ability to form positive relationships with students and manage difficult behaviors
• Must be responsible, caring, and willing to work with children who have special needs
