Reviews and decides on the loan file credit packages that we receive from borrowers in a timely and efficient manner. Applies all applicable underwriting guidelines to each loan package. Reviews and verifies documents for completeness and accuracy, and makes credit decisions in accordance with organizational and secondary market guidelines. Communicates credit information to loan processors, and prepares and reviews commitment letters to ensure accuracy and compliance.


The duties listed below may not include all responsibilities that the person in this role may be asked to perform. Incumbent may be required to perform other related duties as assigned.

  • Manages underwriting pipeline to ensure files are being reviewed and cleared, timely and efficiently
  • Ensures mortgage files are being reviewed in compliance with organizational and secondary market guidelines
  • Completes monthly underwriting reports of any exceptions taken in portfolio products
  • May solicit or take residential mortgage loan applications; may offer or negotiate the terms of residential mortgage loan applications
  • Stays abreast of industry and investor changes and communicate to respective team members
  • Attends related trainings regarding income, credit, assets, appraisal reviews and new industry changes, as available
  • Complies with all federal and state laws and regulations, and all established bank policies and procedures
  • Maintains current knowledge of all rules, regulations and laws as they apply to BSA/OFAC/USA Patriot Act/CIP/AML

QUALIFICATIONS

These specifications are general guidelines based on the minimum experience normally considered essential to the satisfactory performance of this position.   • High School Diploma or GED
  • Three years of mortgage industry experience with conventional/conforming, FHA/VA loans sold in the secondary market
  • Computer literate with strong knowledge of Windows, Microsoft Word, Excel, Internet, LOS and AUS
  • Ability to integrate FHA/VA knowledge and expertise with internal and investor requirements to facilitate loan production
  • Thorough familiarity with complex personal and business financial information and expertise in tax return and balance sheet analysis
  • Organizational, time management and business writing skills
  • Ability to multi-task
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish is desired

ORGANIZATION

  • This position reports to the Mortgage Operations Manager
  • This position does not oversee other positions

TRAINING REQUIREMENTS

All employees are required to attend scheduled mandatory trainings and complete online regulatory compliance training courses applicable to their specific job function. In all situations, employees must ensure that their actions fully comply with all federal banking laws and regulations, including internal bank policies and procedures. Failure to adhere to these requirements will be grounds for disciplinary action, including probation and possible termination.
