We currently have an exciting opportunity in our Information Technology department. This position specifically is located in Norfolk, Virginia. We are looking for a Network Technician .

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND PURPOSE (Job Description)

The Junior Network Engineer will diagnose, triage, resolve and document user initiated and/or escalated network-related support calls and questions from users within the organization. New network requests will be investigated and solutions proposed. The Junior Network Engineer is the first line of support for all phone and network connectivity requests. This position is responsible for implementing and maintaining Layer 1 networking infrastructure. Additional responsibilities include initial device configuration, patching and ongoing maintenance.

This position requires; a professional work ethic within general guidelines, originality and interpretation, referring to management for situations which arise outside of standard procedures, and is somewhat challenging and varied in nature. Errors in work or actions should be contained within working unit or project.

POSITION DEMANDS (Education/Experience)

Associates degree or 1-3 years directly related experience.
Microsoft, Cisco, Juniper and other certifications a plus
Critical thinking and problem solving and detailed-oriented
Excellent communication skills
Self-Motivated and able to work with minimal supervision.
Ability to multi-task in a busy and changing work environment.
Coordinate with Facilities technicians or appropriate shops to complete required tasks on schedule
Familiar with terminations and installation of various network cabling types (CAT6/CATV/etc.)
VoIP to POTS gateway experience a plus
Telephone Management Application (TMA) experience a plus
Fiber splicing experience a plus
Shipyard experience a plus

WORKING RELATIONSHIPS

Reports to Network Manager. Collaborates with members of the IT Infrastructure team.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Troubleshoot LAN, WAN and telephone connectivity issues and assist networking team with upgrades and modifications as required
Collaborate with and provide guidance and/or training on client hardware and software issues
Inventory Management and Material Control
Lead, coordinate and/or participate in IT projects as assigned
Direct and coordinate with outside third party vendors as required
Assist in completion of daily checklists for network health and security and raise concerns as necessary

ACCOUNTABILITY

Diagnose, triage, resolve and document user initiated and/or escalated network-related support calls and questions

Smart phone, Laptop Computer – Power User, Dual Monitor, Docking Station

UNIQUE/ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

Must be willing to work additional hours or nights and weekends as necessary to ensure that systems are operational at all core hours with minimal impact on end computer system users
Must be able to lift 50lbs and work in tight spaces
