This is a seasonal position for our Spring Break and Summer Break periods: Feb 1, 2023 to August 16, 2023; OR Feb 1, 2023 to May 6, 2023; OR May 6, 2023 to August 16, 2023. Successful employees may be offered a permanent position at the end of the season.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Maintain the overall cleanliness of Newport Aquarium by completing daily checklists and cleaning tasks
• Contribute to overall building maintenance both during operation and after hours
• Proactively find ways to better the overall Guest Experience
• Engage guests with animal facts, information, and personal connections
• Daily garbage, recycling, and compost disposal
• Deep clean using specified machines (pressure washer, carpet extractor, hard floor scrubber, etc.)
• Fulfill janitorial duties during after hours and special Events when applicable
• Additional cleaning and maintenance tasks assigned by the House and Grounds Lead and/or Supervisor

QUALIFICATIONS:

• No experience required, yet previous experience in facilities cleaning a plus.
• Willingness to become BBP trained
• Knowledge of aquatic life a plus
• Friendly, outgoing and proactive approach
• Ability to work as a member of a team
• Ability to work a flexible schedule which may include weekends, holidays, and evenings

PHYSICAL AND MEDICAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Successful completion of pre-employment background check
• In good health and capable of performing strenuous and/or heavy physical labor
• No history of allergy related to animals or plants, which might interfere with ability to work
• Ability to remain on feet for long periods of time, climb stairs, bend and stoop
• No impairment of sight, smell, hearing, touch, balance and agility of movement which might interfere with ability to work
• Physical strength, including the ability to lift up to 50 pounds
• Immunocompetence (possible exposure to infections and parasitic disease)

Note: Position will involve exposure to inclement weather, dust, potentially dangerous and unpredictable animal species, and potential dangerous machinery, restraint devices and toxic chemicals and/or drugs. Occasional use of protective clothing or equipment is required e.g. goggles, mask, gloves, and gowns.
