Job Purpose: The Medical Physician uses clinical judgments in conducting health assessments making differential diagnoses, and prescribing pharmacological and non-pharmacological treatments. Plans are implemented through independent action, health counseling, and collaboration with other members of the health team. The MD is responsible for clinical oversight and health center consultation regarding the administration of health care policy and procedure of the delivery of on-site health services. The MD promotes optimum health, prevents illness and injury, and manages acute and chronic health problems on-site.

Primary Responsibilities

Clinical Care

  • Performs physical examinations and preventive health measures within prescribed guidelines of care.
  • Orders interprets, and evaluates diagnostic tests to identify and assess patients’ clinical problems and healthcare needs
  • Records physical findings and formulates plan and prognosis based on patient’s condition.
  • Provides written home-care instructions
  • Collaborates with client’s staff
  • Lead and or participate in special projects assigned by the client leadership
  • Engage and support clients’ ergonomics program.

Medical Surveillance
Conduct, as appropriate, and/or manage all required surveillance examinations

  • Provide medical surveillance support (testing and tracking) for client employees
  • Develop the specific health assessment program plan for assigned employee groups using the client’s standards and guidelines. This includes evaluating plant or department chemical and physical agent hazards, exposure information, and regulatory and client standards to determine the specific testing and frequency needed for employees in the group
  • Collaborates with other health professionals to prepare comprehensive patient care plans as necessary
  • Prescribes or recommends medications or other forms of treatment such as physical therapy, and/or related therapeutic procedures

Medical Emergency Response

  • Provide support to staff for first-line injury and illness care for work-related conditions. May provide support for personal medical issues that arise in the workplace.
  • Participate in the on-site emergency response process as defined in the site Emergency Response Program.
  • Interface with local hospitals and emergency medical providers to enable quality and continuity of care following a possible injury, illness, or exposure.

Case Management Responsibilities

  • Provide personal and work-related injury case management as defined by the client’s policies and guidelines. Case management includes working with 3rd party vendors, obtaining and reviewing health and position information on a case, developing a specific plan for returning the employee to the highest level of job capability given the medical condition, and then monitoring, tracking, and communicating progress.
  • Provide medical advice/input to site leadership on work-relatedness of injuries/illnesses. Organize independent medical examinations as appropriate and in coordination with the client
  • Provide medical advice/input to line organization on issues relating to personal medical conditions, including mental health and substance abuse. Communicate with corporate EHS on cases that are deemed potentially sensitive.

Health Promotion Program Role

  • Provide preventive health services. This includes individual employee counseling, referral, follow-up, and delivery/promotion of health education and training programs to individuals or groups. The client provides standard company programs and materials. Some development of materials and/or identification of local resources may be needed.
  • Promote and support client wellness programs. These should include seasonal influenza vaccination where practical.

Medical Record

  • Provide adequate clinical documentation of services provided to client employees. This includes electronic medical and traditional paper records that are consistent with local law and medical practice.

Qualifications

  • Current license to practice as a MD in the state of Tennessee and others as required by customers
  • Current Certification in AHA or ARC Basic Life Support for medical providers is required
  • Board Certified in Occupational Medicine
  • Strong computer skills with knowledge of Internet software, spreadsheet software and Word Processing software
  • Doctor of Medicine degree.
  • At least three years of clinical experience in ambulatory care, occupational health, or emergency department setting
  • 2-5 years of occupational medicine at a manufacturing or corporate setting required
  • Knowledge of workplace health and safety concepts and OSHA regulations preferred

Schedule: 5 hours/week, with additional hours as available.
