The Occupational Therapy Assistant (OTA) provides occupational therapy services to clients in their home in accordance with the Plan of Care and the Company’s policies and procedures and under the direction and supervision of the licensed Occupational Therapist. The Occupational Therapy Assistant reports directly to the Registered Occupational Therapist.


SCHEDULE

  • Monday – Friday between 8 am – 5 pm; flexible schedule
  • 1:1 Client care visits are an average of 1 – 3 hours per home
  • You may visit multiple homes in one day

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provides treatments to restore and enhance the physical and psychosocial function of the client under the direction and supervision of a licensed Occupational Therapist.
  • Carries out occupational therapy maintenance programs developed by the licensed Occupational Therapist.
  • Demonstrates therapy program for HHA, family member or other responsible person who may assist
    the client with their home occupational therapy program as directed by the licensed Occupational
    Therapist.
  • Reinforces teaching of home therapy program to client, family, or caregivers as directed by the licensed Occupational Therapist.
  • Maintains appropriate documentation for the clinical record as required by Company policy and procedure.
  • Confers with the licensed Occupational Therapist regarding client's progress and Plan of Care changes.
  • Participates in case conference and in-service education.
  • Maintains positive and effective communication with all staff and others. Participates in the team concept.
  • Maintains absolute confidentiality of all information pertaining to clients, families and employees.
  • Occupational Therapy Assistants cannot perform the following activities: evaluation, treatment planning or establishing plans of care, change of treatment, supervision, designing, fabricating and fitting orthotic devices.

PHYSICAL/ENVIRONMENTAL DEMANDS

  • Heavy to Very Heavy. Involves lifting clients, bending, stooping, stretching, and setting up equipment. Must be adaptable to a variety of environments and community settings. Must be able to drive or use public transportation in all types of weather.
  • Exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, and in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Physical demand requirements are in excess Of those for heavy work.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Graduate of a two (2) year COTA college program that leads to an associate degree and has been approved by the American Occupational Therapy Association; currently licensed Occupational Therapy Assistant in the state of Minnesota. The license must not have been revoked, suspended, and without limitations or restrictions.
  • Have at least two (2) years experience in a health care setting or equivalent experience. Home care experience preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal communication and teaching skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to work independently.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Access to a dependable vehicle or public transportation in order to travel to multiple company business stops a day.
  • A valid driver’s license and proof of car insurance when using a personal vehicle for company business.
  • Proof of negative mantoux or documentation of negative chest x-ray.
  • Current CPR certification recommended.
  • Have U.S. Citizenship or evidence of valid Alien Work Permit.
  • Discloses any conviction and criminal history records pertaining to any crime related to the provision of health services. A candidate who has been convicted of such crimes will not be hired.
  • Pass initial and ongoing background studies and screenings including but not limited to those of the Minnesota Department of Health and the Federal Office of the Inspector General’s List of Excluded Individuals and Entities.
  • Provide proof you are fully vaccinated against COVID-19. Medical and religious vaccine exemption requests must be approved by the company before your start date.
