Position Overview

The Bureau of Environmental Programs is seeking an employee to fulfill the role of Office Specialist by bringing positive energy to the workplace, providing specialized office support and becoming a contributing member of our pesticide certification and licensing team. The ideal candidate will be highly organized, able to communicate daily with the public and provide leadership and guidance to the team. Job Responsibilities

1. Coordinates statewide registration of pesticide products program

2. Acts as a liaison between vendors and direct service providers in resolving discrepancies, responding to inquiries, and explaining procedures, rules and services of the programs under the agency’s stewardship

3. Performs complex, specialized assistance or records processing for the pesticide certification and licensing section, pesticide product registration section and nursery program section.

4.. Works in conjunction with Nurserymen and Nursery Stock Dealer certification program.

5. Maintains appropriate files and records for the Bureau and Section including but not limited to:

  • Digital and hard copy applicator files
  • Up-to-date insurance certificates
  • Applicator status in system software (USAPlants Database)
  • Gathers, proofs, edits, and organizes materials for addresses in the system software


6. Serves as receptionist/secretary for the Section/Bureau

7. Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to two years of secretarial/business college and one year of office experience or completion of high school and three years of office experience or three years of independent business experience.
    Qualifying state employees, in the employee Upward Mobility Program, may complete combinations of specific proficiency tests and training programs leading to a certificate of proficiency in lieu of the stated requirements for this clarification.
  • Requires the ability to keyboard at 30 WPM.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Two (2) years of experience in the Microsoft Office Suite products, specifically using Outlook and Word.
  • Four (4) years of experience working in an office using manual and automated office equipment.
  • Two (2) years of working knowledge of the logic of computer programs.

Conditions of Employment

  • Requires the ability to successfully pass a background check.
  • Requires the ability to maintain state issued equipment such as a laptop.
