Position Summary
The term Graduate Assistant is the umbrella term that encompasses all types of GA appointments. Graduate Assistants are employed by the University to teach, conduct research, or assist with administrative duties in departments and non-academic units. Every attempt is made to assign Graduate Assistants to positions that are directly related to the student’s field of study or that provide the opportunity to develop transferable, professional skills. Graduate Assistantships are assigned in the department or unit and confirmed by the Graduate School.

Job Description-Reporting : This position falls under the direct supervision of the Associate Director for Leadership Development.

Job Description-Job Duties and/or Responsibilities: The Graduate Assistant for Leadership Development will work with fellow staff members to coordinate and advise OLCE program initiatives and support the overall function of the office.
Specific Responsibilities:
  • Assist with planning, developing, advertising, executing, and managing all aspects of various leadership activities, including the Fall semester “Leadership Week” and Spring semester LiNC conference.
  • Coordinate the monthly OLCE Leadership Podcast
  • Assist with the administration of Leadership Challenge on all levels as well as by facilitating Bronze workshops for the OLCE cohort and serving as a Silver Leadership Coach
  • Assist with the coordination of the Leadership Challenge Medallion ceremony at the conclusion of the Fall and Spring semester
  • Assist with the OLCE changemaker of the month program
  • Directly supervise one undergraduate student worker
  • Provide support to OLCE’s operations and programs as necessary, as well as other duties as assigned.

Work Hours, Environment: The position is co-located in an OLCE office space with 2 other GAs from the SAAHE program. (Each GA has his/her/their own desk area.) Work is mainly completed in the office, though some programming takes place in different areas around campus (workshop facilitation, conferences, etc). This position is expected to work 20 hours per week during the traditional fall and spring semesters.

Minimum Qualifications
To be eligible for appointments as a graduate assistant, you must:
  • Maintain academic good standing at all times (3.0).
  • Be enrolled full-time, which is generally a minimum of 9 credits.
  • Make satisfactory progress toward your degree as defined by your academic program and the Graduate School.
  • Meet the requirements to be eligible for employment in the U.S.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Experience facilitating workshops
  • Ability to take the initiative while working both autonomously and with a team
  • Excellent organizational and event planning skills
  • Interest and passion for working to empower college students to recognize themselves as civically responsible leaders
