Job Description

The Operations Manager has the general responsibility for coordinating and supervising all warehouse activities on a daily basis, include overseeing shipping, receiving, and inventory management processes, determining work procedures, preparing work schedules and building security. Supervisory responsibilities:

The Operations Manager has numerous direct reports, these include: Floor Supervisors, CSR’s, Forklift Drivers, Warehouse Associates.


Essential Job functions:

  • Provide direct daily supervision to warehouse personnel to ensure the safe, clean, and efficient operation of the warehouse.
  • Direct warehouse workers in the unloading of inbound shipments orderly stacking & staging of product, picking and staging of outbound shipments in accordance with the highest levels of productivity.
  • Maintain communication with the customer to understand their ongoing and changing needs.
  • Maintain Key Performance Indicators / Metrics on the warehouse’s level of performance and value provided to the customer. Lead monthly or quarterly meeting discussing these measures with the customer.
  • Make recommendations to the Vice President of the Warehouse Operations to make improvements.
  • Participate in establishing work schedules, ensuring jobs are assigned effectively and completed properly.
  • Ensure that the proper levels of manpower are maintained (including temporary labor) to effectively meet the demands of the workload.
  • Ensure systems are maintained to guarantee acceptable inventory control and security measures.
  • Ensure the optimal utilization of warehouse space and continually evaluate space utilization and suggest methods for improving
  • Enforce the continued use of the company’s product locator system.
  • Assure the integrity of the inventories and product stored in the warehouse.
  • Direct the operations of the warehouse work team to achieve prescribed objectives.
  • Develop and maintain a productive work team by creating programs for training & professional development.
  • Review monthly financial performance and report status to executive group. Develop and implement changes and improvements necessary to meet corporate goals.
  • Establish quarterly goals for the SBU. These goals are based on: Developing People, Increasing Revenue, Decreasing Expense and Improving Quality.
  • Assist Quality department in the development of processes, CPAR and employee training.
  • Work with Human Resources regarding recruiting, hiring and terminating.
  • Match the skill and background of personnel to the work required.
  • Develop and enforce work rules and disciplinary steps relative to the Union guidelines.
  • Approve and verify all straight time, overtime, and double time hours as well as holiday and vacation time.
  • Report hours to payroll to ensure the timely & accurate processing of payroll.
  • Assist in maintaining the security systems of the warehouse facility.
  • Conduct operations in a manner which promotes safety.
  • Review warehouse operations routinely to ensure the warehouse is neat, secure and well organized and that damage to product, equipment, and the facility is prevented.
  • Act as a liaison between the Warehouse Operation and the Customer Service Department, and ensure that all pertinent information is consistently communicated between the two departments.

Requirements:

  • Education – Bachelor’s Degree in Management or Logistics required.
  • Experience – Three (3) to five (5) years’ experience in a supervisory or management position is required.
  • Training – Annual seminar or training in management or logistics is required.
  • Travel – Some travel is required to main Warehouse
  • Testing – Must be able to pass pre-employment testing.

Other Skills and Abilities

Supervisory experience plus demonstrated skills in leadership, organization, and communication are necessary. Other requirements would consist of experience in warehousing operations, P&L and budget development.


Details & Location

· Position located in Detroit
· 7am start - Monday thru Friday flexible to work overtime and Saturdays when needed
