ABOUT THE SCHOOL/DEPARTMENT

Stony Creek Elementary is a PreK-5 inclusive community that works together to motivate and inspire children to become self-directed, life-long learners. We provide a positive and supportive environment in which learners feel safe to take risks, succeed academically, think critically, and respect the diversity of others. Our students in grades K-5 have 1:1 access to technology to provide various learning opportunities in order to communicate, collaborate, innovate, and interact with the world around them.

Our school utilizes the Discovery Learning Model which focuses on the idea that students learn best through exploration and collaboration. In this model, student voice and choice are key components in the learning and curiosity drives lessons. Stony Creek embraces the restorative practice approach in which we build community through restorative circles. Informal restorative conferences are facilitated in order for students and staff to resolve conflict with one another.

We as a staff continually work to improve upon our strengths and deepen our teaching practices through professional learning communities. The staff works together to develop their pedagogy and collegial practices of trust, information sharing, and cooperation. We have high expectations for ourselves as well as our students.
