Positions Available for either Full-Time or Part-Time Hours

Note: Employees in these seasonal positions will work forty (40) hours per week, to perform seasonal work activities for a continuous period not exceeding one-hundred and twenty (120) calendar days.

An employee in this class performs a variety of park security, custodial and maintenance activities at all Muskegon County Parks under the general supervision of higher level park personnel. Park Rangers patrol areas to insure safe and orderly use of park facilities, process registrations and accept fees, groom beaches, clean camp sites and assist in skilled maintenance activities. Employees in this class may be required to work any of three shifts including weekends and holidays. An employee in this class may also be responsible for performing a variety of unarmed security functions at the County's Heritage Landing cruise ship docking facility.

Required Minimum Entrance Qualifications

1. Be a high school graduate or have successfully completed the General Education Development Test (GED), prior to the start of employment.
2. Be at least 18 years of age prior to the start of employment.
3. Possess a valid driver's license.

Note: In order to be eligible to perform dock security functions, a Homeland Security screening must be passed and a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC Card), must be issued. If such functions are assigned, the individual(s) will be notified and the applicable screening and credentialing will be provided by Muskegon County.

Physical Conditions / Work Location

Park Rangers/Dock Security must be in good physical condition such to allow for extensive walking, climbing, pulling and moving objects weighing fifty (50) pounds or more, working in various weather conditions, and ability to perform physical labor.

EVALUATION CONTENT
The selected candidate must take a post-offer medical examination (including back screen and complete physical) and drug screening test given by a County appointed physician before the first day of employment. An offer of employment is contingent upon the results of the medical examination and drug screening test. Applicants for County employment may be subject to a post-offer criminal background check, depending on the nature and assignment of the position. When such check is conducted, an offer of employment is contingent upon the results of the criminal background check. Appointees must satisfactorily complete a probationary period before the appointment will be considered permanent.

PURPOSE
The purpose of this recruitment is to establish an eligible list from which to fill present and future vacancies in this classification in the County system. For each opening, the Department Head has her/his choice of the candidates who meet the required minimum entrance qualifications. This list remains in effect for three months unless exhausted or extended.
