DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Under the supervision of the Children’s Librarian, the part-time Early Learning Specialist supports early childhood programs and services at Community Libraries. This initiative seeks to support parents and caregivers as children’s first teachers.

The Early Learning Specialist works collaboratively with the Children’s Librarian to lead scheduled story time or play base programs for families with young children ages birth to five, in-person or virtually. The Early Learning Specialist will be responsible for monitoring family programming by paid presenters or community organizations. May provide outreach visits to local daycares. Emphasizes and encourages the power of play in developing essential learning skills for young children in casual conversations with parents/caregivers. The Early Learning Specialist manages the early learning space and toy collection to ensure they are in order and in good condition. Performs other duties as required.

Position Information

• The rate of pay for this position is $20.00 per hour.
• Varied schedule with a maximum of 17 hours per week.
• Part-time positions do not offer any medical or health benefits.

QUALIFICATIONS:

High School Diploma or High School Equivalency is required. Some college or Bachelor’s degree are preferred. Experience working with children aged birth to five is required. Experience leading early childhood programming preferred. Familiarity working in an ethnically diverse urban community is preferred. Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills are required. Fluency in a second language spoken in Queens is preferred.
