Part-time Pottery Technician Job at Gwinnett County
Gwinnett County Parks and Recreation Operations maintains and operates the county's award-winning park system and provides high quality parks and recreation facilities, innovative programs, and quality services to meet the broad-based needs of Gwinnett's diverse population, fostering a sense of community, creating a safe and secure environment, and enhancing Gwinnett's quality of life. Gwinnett County Parks and Recreation administers programs, buildings and aquatic centers for our citizens. This includes a variety of classes and camps, pools, gymnasiums, community recreation centers, activity buildings, and senior recreation centers.
The Pottery Technician must demonstrate interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisor, and the general public sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction. The position is located at the Pinckneyville Part Community Recreation Center in Berkeley Lake, GA.
Incumbent must display the following knowledge and skills:
- General pottery studio maintenance and cleaning.
- Kiln operations including gas, electric, and raku firings.
- Maintain clay, glaze, and pottery tool inventory.
- Cleaning and maintaining kiln equipment.
- Cleaning pottery drains.
- Assisting students during independent study hours.
- Pottery wheel maintenance and cleaning.
- Mixing glazes and underglazes.
- Developing firing schedule and adhering to it on a weekly basis.
- Requisitioning quotes and reviewing invoices from pottery suppliers and maintenance contractors.
- Registering patrons for classes, independent study, and clay sales.
- Assisting the pottery instructor.
- Assisting recreation staff with special events and seasonal programming.
- Other duties assigned.
- High School Diploma or G.E.D.
- Two years of experience working with ceramics, or a combination of training and experience;
- Valid driver's license.
- Bachelor's degree in Studio Art;
- First Aid and CPR certification (must be obtained within the first 6 months of employment or discretion of the department)
This position requires moderate physical effort. It may include frequent lifting of up to 50 pounds. Bending, stooping, and/or lifting will be required. Pottery studios are working environments and candidate may be exposed to ceramic dust, clay, glazes, fire, moving parts, and loud noises.
