The Role

We are looking for a Sr. Associate to join our valuation team. This person will report directly to the Valuation Manager and will work closely with the internal Finance and Capital Network teams, as well as the external valuation service providers. We currently use enterprise software (Allvue, Qval, Salesforce) for efficiency and scale but are adding in new best of breed technologies (Standard Metrics, Aumni) for continued improvement and growth.

  • Extensive experience with all things valuation, including ASC Topic 820, industry and investment specific valuation methodologies (i.e., market approach, income approach, OPM Backsolve, liquidation waterfall analysis, common share equivalents analysis, etc.)
  • Collaborate with internal teams for preparation of portfolio company valuations including gathering private company financials, financing documents, capitalization tables, and projections as needed
  • Interface with the external valuation service providers to ensure timely valuation model turnaround and capitalization table updates for real-time ownership and valuation reporting
  • Prepare valuation models on an ad hoc basis to support legal reporting requirements and to ensure compliance with the firm’s valuation policy
  • Assist with creating automated valuation reporting processes to support internal and external stakeholders
  • Provide investor relations support for portfolio company valuation related queries.
  • Support internal teams with special projects as needed
  • Stay abreast of industry changes as they relate to valuation and the a16z portfolios
  • Deep understanding of capital table and capital structure of a company

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent education experience, with focus in finance, economics, or accounting
  • 5-7 years of experience in public accounting (audit-advisory / transaction / valuation services), or related work experience at a PE/VC firm with an exposure to portfolio valuation.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
  • Strong time management
  • Ability to deal with sensitive information and maintain confidentiality
  • Understanding of partnership accounting and/or asset management operations a plus
  • Experience with Qval valuation software a plus
  • Strong valuations techniques skills

The anticipated salary range for this role is between $187,000-$218,000, actual starting pay may vary based on a range of factors which can include experience, skills, and scope.
