The Role

Andreessen Horowitz is looking for a Content Lead, Life Sciences for its Bio+Health vertical, which sits at the intersection of biology, engineering, bio pharma, and healthcare. This role is a key member of the Bio+Health marketing team, reporting to the Chief Marketing Officer. This role will be embedded within the broader a16z bio and health fund and team, and this person will serve as a Content Lead and editor to the General Partners within the Bio and Health vertical. This person will work closely with the General Partners to help refine their ideas and to build ground-breaking thought leadership content across a variety of mediums, including traditional and digital media and spanning a broad range of topics related to important trends in life sciences and biology. This person is a skilled writer and storyteller who is adept at communicating complex technical concepts and sophisticated ideas in a concise manner.

  • Strategize and shepherd the development of engaging life sciences content on behalf of our general partners across all phases of development (from brainstorming to publishing)
  • Develop content frameworks that support our investing thesis for each of the General Partners by synthesizing their own voices and interests along with the latest trends, current events, and business objectives. Utilize these frameworks to proactively identify new ways to help the General Partners build differentiated thought leadership campaigns and position them as experts in their respective fields
  • Keep a pulse on the latest innovations, industry news, and companies across life sciences and biopharma and at the intersection of biology, engineering, and computer science.
  • Leverage industry trends to suggest and develop messaging, content and traditional and social media for our General Partners.
  • Work and collaborate with the broader Bio+Health leadership team, along with cross-functional counterparts within other verticals, on content initiatives.
  • Build content to support the entire spectrum of each General Partner’s communications activities, including blog posts, presentations, videos, speeches, videos newsletters, and social media channels.
  • Be flexible and adaptable in your writing approach and open to feedback.

Minimum Qualifications

  • 8+ years of experience in a content, marketing or communications role at a biotech or life sciences company, or at a life-sciences oriented news/media outlet.
  • Bachelor's degree in Biology or science-oriented field is required. An advanced degree (MA or PhD) is preferred.
  • Proven experience writing and editing across different mediums, including blogs, video, keynote speeches, social media - please provide a writing portfolio to share with the team
  • Strong experience developing content to support executive level voices and tones, on thought leadership initiatives, op eds, and bylines.
  • Public Relations experience in the life sciences, biology space.
  • Proven ability to meet tight deadlines, often working on multiple articles and projects simultaneously.
  • Proven ability to manage cross functional stakeholders and projects simultaneously.
  • Experience building and executing successful PR programs in life sciences, especially in support of data presentations at medical meetings and conferences.

The anticipated salary range for this role is between $247,000-$288,000 actual starting pay may vary based on a range of factors which can include experience, skills, and scope.
