The Role

The Bio + Health Marketing Partner at Andreessen Horowitz will support brand marketing and communications for our Bio+Health Fund. This is a rare opportunity for a motivated and seasoned communications professional in bio/healthcare to drive meaningful change in an exciting and rapidly evolving technological sector at a top venture capital firm.

In this role, you'll report into the Chief Marketing Officer and be responsible for the marketing of Andreessen Horowitz Bio + Health and our general partners as the leading voices in the market. You will work with top problem solvers across the firm, the portfolio, and broader a16z network to deploy impactful campaigns across brand, editorial, and events.

To join our team, you should be excited to:

  • Drive the planning, development and delivery of thought leadership communications campaigns that support the Bio + Health brand. Support this effort by advising and developing a diversified content platform including messaging, written and video content, and executing social media strategies to build share of voice and engagement
  • Grow our emerging Bio + Health social footprint with rich and engaging content, creative strategies, and innovative ideas. Work across the organization to build a robust content calendar for each social channel. Drive awareness and interaction with the Bio + Health brand, our GPs and our content, including our podcast. Respond strategically to analytic results on each channel
  • Build and enhance relationships with external media outlets including news, business, and industry trade publications to support our portfolio companies
  • Be a beacon and trusted advisor for dozens of portfolio companies - you're the specialist, they'll turn to you on brand marketing, media strategy, issues management, internal communications, who and when to hire, and how to use their voices to grow their brands. Provide further support by assisting in the development of communications plans, drafting written materials and social media elements
  • Oversee Public Relations agency relationships and support our Bio + Health PR efforts.
  • Collaborate with the marketing team on overall firm brand initiatives, including relevant events such as dinners, portfolio workshops, and networking receptions
  • Be responsible for the continued development of a16z's marketing agency network – this includes identifying and vetting appropriate agencies/consultants

Minimum Qualifications

  • 10+ years of experience leading life sciences/biotech/biopharma/healthcare corporate communications, executive communications, crisis, product, and/or policy communications at a biotech or pharma organization. PR or marketing communications agency communications experience a huge plus
  • Proven track record of creating brand-building initiatives across life sciences, biotech biopharma and leading cross-functional teams with high-quality results
  • A track record of influencing and engaging successfully with external stakeholders (thought leaders, key opinion leaders, influencers, press, governments) at the highest levels in a highly regulated, politically sensitive and technical environment
  • Expertise building and executing content marketing strategies
  • Proven track record of coordinating multiple programs simultaneously, moving projects forward, and developing and implementing creative, solution-oriented strategies while anticipating future demands and opportunities
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills with ability to simplify complex issues
  • Experience providing counsel, media training, presentation support, etc. to senior leaders as well as cross-functional stakeholders
  • Self-motivated and well organized with excellent time management abilities
  • Strong partnership skills - we are connectors at our core and find joy in building trusted connections within the firm, within our portfolio, and with the industries in which we operate
  • Respect for the entrepreneurial struggle and eagerness to mentor counsel, and support entrepreneurs of all stages with both compassion and deep expertise
  • High degree of professional versatility and hands-on capability with a willingness to meet challenges head-on

The anticipated salary range for this role is between $241,000-$281,000, actual starting pay may vary based on a range of factors which can include experience, skills, and scope.

This role is eligible to participate in the a16z carry program and various discretionary bonus programs as well as benefit and perquisite plans including health, dental, vision, disability, life insurance, 401K plan, vacation, and sick leave. #LI-Remote
