The Job:
Come join our dynamic collegial corporate patent department without having to submit billable hours! This hybrid position allows you to work mostly remote with little required overtime and limited attendance in our White Marsh office, allowing you to maintain a good work/life balance. A fully remote position may be considered for the right candidate. You'll get to:
  • Work with in-house patent attorneys to prepare, assemble, and file U.S. and PCT patent applications, office action replies, amendments, appeals, information disclosure statements, declarations, assignments, and other filings with the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office and PCT receiving offices. Assist outside patent attorneys and administrative staff on the same.
  • Maintain and monitor docket of patent and trademark applications and action due dates to assure no loss of intellectual property rights and communicate due dates to attorney. Follow up with in-house and outside patent attorneys to expedite timely responses to actions.
  • Review all incoming correspondence related to U.S., PCT, and foreign patent and trademark applications for completeness, urgency, and response required, and update docket and patent attorney as needed.
  • Instruct foreign counsel on filing patent applications outside of the U.S., including necessary specifications, drawings, and claims. Correspond with foreign counsel and arrange for execution and legalization of petitions, assignments, and other required documents.
  • Work with in-house patent attorneys and trademark paralegal to prepare, assemble, and file U.S. trademark applications, responses to office actions, amendments, appeals, statements of use, renewals, and other filings with the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office. Communicate and work with foreign agents for foreign trademark applications.
  • Create and maintain electronic files for invention disclosures, patent and trademark applications, issued patents, registered trademarks, agreements, correspondence, acquisitions, divestitures, investigations, opinions, and litigation.
  • Assemble and obtain signatures for agreements, declarations, assignments, and other legal documents.
  • Create electronic billing records for matters being handled by outside vendors.
  • Perform general administrative duties, such as receiving and distributing mail, photocopying, faxing, receiving visitors, scheduling meetings, making travel arrangements, and preparing expense reports.

The Person:

  • At least 2-3 years of experience as a patent prosecution legal assistant in a law firm or corporate legal department is required.
  • Experience with trademarks, litigation, and agreements preferred, but not required.
  • Extremely organized, detail-oriented, and able to time manage oneself and manage competing priorities.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team under deadlines and establish and follow priorities.
  • Excellent grammar and composition.
  • PowerPoint, Word, Excel, and Outlook skills a must
  • Demonstrated performance in current position.
  • Team player with a positive can-do attitude.
  • Bachelor's degree preferred
  • Less than 10% of Travel
