The Opportunity

Patient Care Associates (PCAs) provide direct patient care under the direction and supervision of a licensed Nurse. Our team addresses not only medical and physical needs (bathing, dressing, feeding, taking vitals, repositioning, etc.), but also offers compassion and emotional support as patients work through the psychological effects associated with spinal cord injury.

Location

This inpatient rehabilitation hospital team is based out of Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital Boston, the flagship institution of the Spaulding Network. In the Charlestown Navy Yard, our hospital is located at 300 1st Avenue Boston, MA 02129.

Schedule

This is a full-time, 40-hour day shift position. Hours are Monday through Friday from 7:00am to 3:30pm. There is also a rotation that requires coverage every other weekend (both Saturday and Sunday, from 7:00am to 3:30pm).

Qualifications

• Education/Degree
  • Required: High school diploma, GED or equivalent
• Certification
  • Required:
    • Healthcare Provider CPR certification required
    • Certification as a Nursing Assistant at time of hire within the Spaulding Rehabilitation Network or within 120 days of employment if enrolled in a sponsored program and must remain active thereafter, OR Nursing student currently enrolled in a formal nursing program and has successfully completed at least one clinical rotation. Must become certified within 120 days from employment start date.

Certified Nursing Assistants employed as of June 1, 2018 with ten (10) or more years of service in this role are exempt from this requirement except for SRB which requires certification due to mandated DPH regulatory requirement.

• Experience
  • Preferred: Minimum of 1 year of experience as a nursing assistant preferred.
• Skills
  • Required:
    • Effective verbal and written communication skills with the English language.
    • Basic math and computer science skills.
    • Ability to perform, modify, and record all physical therapy skills with relevance to appropriate thoroughness and sequencing.
    • Knowledge of DPH/OEMS regulations.
