Job Summary:
The purpose of this job is to perform a variety of activities related to the transportation of patients and transport equipment in a timely, safe and efficient manner and to greet and assist patients and visitors as needed.

Responsibilities:

Safely and efficiently transports patients and transport equipment from one location to another using established schedules and guidelines. Verifies a patient's identity prior to transporting the patient.
Notifies nursing staff prior to removing a patient from unit and upon return to unit.

Transports cadavers to the morgue with dignity and respect, following UMCNO guidelines for this process. Coordinates all aspects of this process with Hospital Public Safety department for gaining access and for assuring that morgue is properly secured upon completion of process. Completes associated logging of all information related to the process.

Maintains regular communication with supervisor and staff, responding promptly to calls and pager messages. Monitors demand for courier services and reports need for changes in routing and schedules. Identifies and communicates to the director possible improvements in schedules, services, processes and procedures. Reports delays to dispatcher regarding delays in service/movement of patients.

Ensures that courier equipment is properly cleaned and maintained. Enters supply room(s) on nursing units as needed to perform necessary job functions. Refrains from manipulating or removing any equipment/devices or intravenous fluids that are connected to the patient or stored in the area.

Job Requirements:
American Heart Association: Basic Life Support-HCP

1 year of experience preferred.
