The department of Obstetrics and Gynecology is a School of Medicine Academic/ Clinic department of approximately 32 faculty, 8 volunteer clinical faculty, 6 staff physicians, 6 fellows, 29 residents, and approximately 114 staff members. The department is responsible for providing research education, and clinical services.

Responsibilities
This position provides a high level of support to all subspecialties within the OBGYN department, such as general GYN, Maternal-Fetal Medicine, Urogynecology, Genetics, and Family Planning, including abortion services. This position performs scheduling, referral, and authorization functions for one or more of the OBGYN department subspecialties and outpatient, inpatient.
The Patient Services Representative 3 (PSR 3) is responsible for sustaining an environment of intrinsic good will for the department while providing optimum services to patients.
This position requires the skills and ability to manage the level of responsibility and accountability necessary to provide specialized duties for the department/clinical team for which it is assigned. This position may also perform front office duties consistent with that of Patient Services Representative 2 (MOSC 2), per operational needs.
Required Qualifications
  • Participation in inpatient care for women of diverse backgrounds with comprehensive needs, including abortion services, is required.
  • Recent experience in practices and protocols related to medical office procedures, (i.e. medical terminology, appointments, medical records, insurance verification, cashiering, billing, etc.).
  • Knowledge of health care insurance systems, which may include Medi-Cal, MediCare, HMO, PPO, fee-for-service, county funded coverage, and workers’ compensation, sufficient to properly obtain and track authorizations, appoint patients, make referrals for consults, diagnostics and ancillary services, coordinate hospital services, complete and submit billing documentation, and explain provisions and requirements to patients.
  • Knowledge of ICD-9, CPT and HCPCS coding guidelines sufficient to accurately identify services performed, including diagnoses, procedures, and supplies.
  • PC proficiency in using multiple computer system applications.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Obstetrics and Gynecology experience.
  • Training or equivalent experience in billing, authorizations, referrals, medical terminology, and comprehensive insurance plans and products.
  • Recent experience with Epic or EMR.
  • CPT/ICD-10/ MEDICAL Terminology/ referrals an d authorizations, and comprehensive knowledge of insurance plans and their differences. e.g. HMPO/PPO/POS etc.
Special Requirements
  • Must be willing to work variable days (including weekends), hours and locations as required to meet business needs of the practice.
  • For positions with medical records responsibilities, duties require ability to retrieve and file bulky medical record charts (up to 3" thick) stored in filing cabinets and on shelves that may be above shoulder level and below waist level, and to efficiently transport multiple charts weighing 5 to 25 pounds throughout the medical office.
  • This position may be subject to a criminal background investigation, drug screen, Live Scan fingerprinting, medical evaluation clearance, and functional capacity assessment.
