The Role You Play

As a Peer Support Provider, you will use your unique experiences with a behavioral/mental health condition to assist and support others currently experiencing similar conditions. You will assist adult clients by enhancing their ability to make independent choices and take a proactive role in their own treatment plans.

  • The Day-to-Day
    • Assist clients with developing a network for information and support from others with similar experiences
    • Enhance client ability to make independent and proactive treatment choices – discuss concerns and questions with clinicians
    • Act as a mentor to clients in appropriately responding to everyday challenges
    • Ensure that services provided are part of a client’s documented treatment plan
  • Other Duties as Assigned
    • Advocate for client rights and community integration
    • Meet documentation requirements in a timely manner
    • Drive to community settings to provide services or meet program needs

Who You Are

The ideal candidate is self-motivated, flexible, and enjoys working independently with the support of a care team. You should have a passion for helping people and the creativity to develop individual and group activities for your clients.

  • Required
    • Must be at least 18 years of age, high school diploma or equivalent strongly preferred
    • MUST have current or past life experience receiving mental health services
      • In line with Peer Support Certification guidelines, applicants must be in stable recovery. Pawnee defines recovery as having graduated from an ARS program or currently in a maintenance phase of services.
    • Strong oral and written English communication skills
    • Basic computer skills
    • Valid driver’s license and automobile liability insurance
  • Preferred
    • Current certification as a Peer Specialist (CPS)
      • Will become certified within one year of employment
    • Experience with Microsoft Office software

Results of criminal and all other applicable background checks must meet the approval of Pawnee Mental Health Services.
