We're looking for a People Business Partner to join our team in New York as part of our Human Resources function.
We're looking for a HR Business Partner, North America to join our team in New York (open to candidates based in and around the New York region as some time in the office will be required) as part of our Human Resources function.
The HR Business Partner, North America will cover a number of our business units effectively being the eyes and ears in the region for Ascential Group, Product Design, Marketing and Retail & Financial Services. This role will work closely with HRVPs and HRBPs, line managers and the Global HR team to deliver the talent and processes that will achieve our ambitious business objectives. The HRBP will act as the point of people expertise and will be the local HR Generalist expert to implement and embed consistent approaches and initiative, working closely with the centers of excellence teams including Special Projects, Learning & Development, Reward and People Services, to ensure efficiencies as well as excellence in delivery.
In this role, you will need to quickly adapt to surroundings through active listening and knowledge of human resources best practices. You will assist in helping drive our people function objectives, performance metrics and activities to align both business and financial goals with best practice. The position will report to the VP of HR.
Key Responsibilities
  • The successful HRBP acts as an employee champion and change agent and assesses and anticipates HR‐related needs
  • Act as the eyes and ears for the relevant HRVPs and Managers, listening and acting upon what is heard in consultation with the wider business team
    • Works in partnership with the other HRBPs globally to deal with any people related issues, restructures, initiatives or projects.
    • Works with Talent Acquisition Leads (where relevant) or hiring managers to help with complex queries
  • Consults and partners with line management, providing HR guidance when appropriate
  • Manages and resolves complex employee relations issues
  • Conducts effective, thorough and objective investigations when required
  • Maintains in-depth knowledge of legal requirements related to day-today management of employees, reducing legal risk and ensuring regulatory compliance
  • Provides day-to-day performance management guidance to line management (coaching, counselling, performance reviews, career development, and disciplinary actions)
  • Works closely with management and employees to improve work relationships, build morale, and increase productivity and retention
  • Knowledge of immigration processes and requirements, and experience handling immigration matters and providing immigration support for new hires, international employee travel plans, and international employee transfers
  • Provides guidance and input on business unit restructures, workforce planning, and succession planning and change management
  • Supports the wider HR team with the roll out of company wide HR life-cycle processes such as annual appraisals, pay review, people engagement survey amongst others as needed.
  • Participates in evaluation and monitoring of training and compliance programs, and may be involved in identifying training needs for business units
  • Other responsibilities as assigned

Your Experience
  • Previous experience in business partnering in North America and knowledge and understanding of HR practices, policies, and legal compliance issues across the region
  • Proven experience in implementing and executing human resource programs
  • Strong communication skills including active listening, written and oral communication, comprehension and expression skills with the ability to articulate organizational and local human resources best practice, policies and procedures at all levels within an organization
  • Comfortable and confident handling human resource questions, interpreting and administering contracts and helping resolve work-related problems
  • Ability to independently, handle multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously, while successfully balancing the achievement of short- and medium-term objectives
  • A continuous improvement mindset. Use key HR business systems, metrics and workforce analytics to identify areas of needed improvement and support the creation and execution of improvement actions
  • Demonstrated ability to understand an organization's operations and functions and the ability to understand and navigate the context and complexity of a global, matrixed corporate environment
  • Cultural awareness - Understand the culture difference among countries and be able to make fair judgement and have the practical solution in place to address problems
  • Logical thinker, able to identify and articulate challenges and formulate practical solutions and able to use best judgement to help the business make sound people decisions
  • Collaborator who takes pride in sharing knowledge; enjoys teaching as well as learning
