Summary

Supports physical therapy/occupational therapy care delivery by preparing treatment area, patient equipment and materials; performs patient care under the continuous and immediate supervision of a licensed Physical Therapist or Physical Therapist Assistant/OT/OTA. Assists with scheduling, administrative work and tasks delegated by supervising physical therapist/Director of rehabilitation. Maintains office, equipment, and treatment areas in a safe clean and orderly manner.

Duties and responsibilities
(Includes, but is not limited to the following):

  • Prepare treatment room for patient by following prescribed procedures and protocols.
  • Prepare patients for physical therapy/OT treatment by welcoming, escorting, and assisting patient to therapy treatment area.
  • Provide information to patients by answering questions and requests; allaying fears.
  • Help treat patients by applying heat and cold packs, paraffin dips, electrical stimulation, help patients onto exercise equipment.
  • Maintain patient confidence and protects operations by keeping information confidential.
  • Maintain safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.
  • Provide equipment and supplies by sterilizing and delivering equipment and supplies to treatment area; position equipment for therapist access; position patient on equipment.
  • Ensure operation of physical therapy equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements; follow manufacturer’s instruction; troubleshoot malfunctions; call for repairs.
  • Maintain physical therapy supply inventories by checking stock to determine inventory level; anticipate needed supplies; place and expedite orders for supplies; verify receipt of supplies.
  • Assist with patient appointment scheduling. Prepare daily schedule for therapists. Assist with managing input of exercise flow sheets and functional assessment tools into patient files.
  • Attends meetings as required.
  • Regular and reliable attendance is required to perform the functions of this position.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Education, licensure and/or certifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.

Experience

  • Previous healthcare experience preferred.

Knowledge, skills and abilities

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, employees and the public.
  • Skill in answering the telephone in a pleasant and helpful manner.
  • Ability to speak clearly and concisely.
  • Skill in operating a computer and other office equipment (i.e., scanner, fax, etc.)
  • Knowledge of grammar, spelling and punctuation to type patient information.
  • Ability to read, understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to sort and file materials correctly by alphabetic or numeric systems.

Physical demands

  • Requires prolonged standing and working on your feet (70 – 90% of the day).
  • Requires work at a computer while standing or sitting.
  • Requires eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity sufficient to operate a keyboard, photocopier, telephone, calculator and other office equipment.
  • Requires normal range of hearing and eyesight to record, prepare and communicate appropriate reports.
  • Requires lifting papers or boxes up to 50 pounds occasionally.
  • Requires dexterity to type 60 wpm.

Work environment
Work is performed in an clinic environment and involves frequent contact with patients and staff.

Schedule:

  • Monday-Friday, 8:30 am - 12:30/1:00pm

Job Type: Full-time
