Job Summary and Qualifications

The primary role of the Radiation Physicist is to ensure that quality radiation care and adherence to radiation standards are maintained throughout the planning and treatment process. The physicist consults with other members of the oncology team and often assists with designing a treatment process. Before a treatment plan begins, the physicist is responsible for conducting quality assurance checks to ensure that all parameters of the treatment have been correctly transferred to the machine and are correct for all treatment fields and that the plan is in accordance with the dose prescription.


What qualifications you will need:

EDUCATION REQUIRED Graduate Degree - Masters in Physics, Medical Physics or other Physical Science.

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED 3 Years Minimum in Related Role - Fulltime practical training and/or supervised experience in Medical Physics.

POSITION SPECIFIC DUTIES

1. Follows safety regulations and practice safe techniques.

2. Consults with physician to ensure appropriate patient care is provided: X-Ray equipment, calibration, commissioning of new equipment, dosimetry.

3. Plans, directs, conducts and participates in supporting programs to ensure effective and safe use of radiation and radionuclides in human beings by physician specialist.

4. Supervises calculations including computerized treatment planning reviews, simulations, checks charts, and oversees physics aspects of treatments.

5. Calibrates all radiation therapy equipment, does machine performance surveys, and implements procedure to ensure quality control for electronic imaging devices.

6. Maintains Quality Assurance Program for the Radiation Oncology Department ensuring that all State & Federal rules are followed.

7. Maintains licensure as required by the State of Georgia and Hospital guidelines

8. Responsible for charge entry for physicist services.

9. Assist with Performance Improvement (PI) monitor program as it relates to the physicist scope of practice.

10. Assists Radiation Oncologist to supervise and approve special procedures such as IMRT.
